That is so beautiful, gave me chills up and down. The marimba sounds so rich, and the music is so full of emotion. It looks like you don't play just with your hands, but with your whole body, as if even your feet need to be in the right place, like a precise dance where every single move has its very own meaning. There must be some serious practice behind this mastery.

Ummmm, VERY well stated. :-) I commented earlier that it sounds like he spends days working out what to do with each note. THAT is interpretation and skill, stellar level. I heard Frank Tedesco, the other day, say he's been practicing for 4-7 hours EVERY day for 16 years. Too bad he isn't committed, and at what he does, which is making beautiful music out of sometimes requests of most horrible junk you've ever heard, real time. :-) It's worth a watch, just to see if you like it. There are about three others on YT that do this well, but not at his level. I gave you something with a ten level loop first, and some pure solo piano that's a bit more complex and very pretty in the second, something a classical snob would like, JIC. :-) He also gets full up classical requests. If you choose to listen, I hope you like it. I left a couple of seconds of the phone he's working from, so you can see what's happening. None of the percussion is at all complex here, but some are a good bit more, and he'd heard neither of these beforehand: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aquwfZSfrZ2NqtE kzbin.info/www/bejne/aquwfZSfrZ2NqtE If you are a keyboardist, here's a little two minute etude he wrote that looks and sounds like fun. He has the sheets, and you might be able to find a transcription elsewhere, not sure. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6euh4SqYqmfhsU I think he wrote that while in school, as a composition major.

"Air for marimba"....musta MISSED that one! Is that like PDQ Bach's "Hair on a G String"? LOL Beautiful rendition, kidding aside. The tonality of that instrument, for this piece REALLY works. I would like to hear it with you on marimba and someone appropriate on the great organ...it would be a WONDERFUL added "stop", so to speak. Always one of my favorite pieces. Your accuracy is amazing, and, as someone wryly commented on another vid, your marshmallows never fell off your twigs, not even once. Added to my playlist.

@@rbpercussion Mr. Bauer and thank you for your most kind response. The mallets that I'm hearing from France seem to surpass those from the United States in color of tone and appearance. Your playing with these mallets brings a whole other level to the art of marimba playing. Many thanks! Jim Whitfill

Very good! Simple not flashy, but gets to the heart of it. A beginning repeated, a middle, more involved, and a resolution. The player is like a slow gymnast beating time, totally joyous! Were's the CD?

Awesome! I see this was arranged and played on a 5 octave marimba, but is there a 4.3 octave option available, or is the range small enough it can just be played up one octave to fit a 4.3? I really would love to play this for my audition, but my school and the ensemble I'm auditioning for only has 4.3 octave keyboards.
@rbpercussion8 жыл бұрын
Hi Hannah, thanks:) You can play it on an 4.3-Marimba. You have to play everything one Octave higher. Of course it has not this deep round sound...

Is marimba hard to play? I really love to play someday and hopefully anxiety don't get me.
@jaggers_0908 жыл бұрын
in comparison to piano, it is harder and easier in different ways, for example, it is much easier to play fast on marimba than it is to play fast on piano, but with piano it is easier to play chords. Another thing is that almost all marimba music is written in the treble cleff, which makes it easier (since people tend to cite read treble cleff better)

Yeah, it's like 'why not five, or six?', right? :-) This guy sounds to me like he works out exactly what he wants to do with every aspect of every note, and has the capabilities to back it up, like the best classical pianists you hear. About 12,000 levels of dynamics, etc. When masters sit down (or stand up) at or with an instrument, magic happens. It goes from music, to soul filling, in my case, especially if it's the guy every musician loves to hate, Bach. /S, the part between the penultimate comma and the last period. :-)
