With all due respect to Ry & Derek, I've maintained for a few decades now, that Sonny is the absolute master of blues based, electric slide guitar...this is a prime example, he takes it to other places, covering so many other facets, genres & styles. His Louisiana upbringing gave him a distinct advantage, growing up in such a diverse gumbo of music...it's in his very DNA👍 🇨🇦

Another really amazing aspect about Sonny is how accessible he is. In 2016, he did a little show in Portland, OR. After the show, he came out to shake hands, sign CDs, and pose for photos with fans. And that is how I got one with him. What a remarkable individual!

There are too many twits out there, from all walks of Life, who are always offering a "Master Class" for this and a "Master Class" for that. Pay attention-This is an actual Master. Know why? I've heard him interviewed before and he never fails to mention in one way or another that he considers himself a Lifelong STUDENT of music and the guitar.

♫"I think that the reason he sounds so different is 'cause of where he's from. I can hear fiddles a lot in his playing, just from the way he raises the notes. Slide is just another voice you can have. You can really make a guitar sound like a person, and Sonny knows what that's about."♫ Dobro ace and Multi Grammy winner: ~Jerry Douglas ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From 2010?! I can't believe I've never seen footage of this before, I thought it was really well done. There have been a few electric guitarists take that sound in to the orchestral realm, but it doesn't always work. I thought Sonny was great here, obviously totally different to anything he normally plays and must've been bricking it on the inside!

it’s usual in orchestral music performances for the soloist to play from memory, while the orchestra play from dots. Both are amazing - the orchestra members are almost certainly sight-reading.

Bach once happened to sit at a fortepiano, played a few chords, and declared that he didn't like that instrument at all. Which means that he wrote his scores precisely for the instruments he had in mind, and wanted them to be played with those instruments. And I agree with him, even though his music is to such a point absolute that it might be played even with an ocarine or a pan flute.

Very talented but this doesn't work for me AT ALL and i think the rest of you are just being sycamphantic. Harps and Strats with overdrive, a tube screamer and slide? No. It's not about opinion or taste, that wasn't pleasant. Picking something so well-known too, way too risky of a choice. Like cocaiane and LSD, some things just weren't meant to go together. All you people raving in the comments? It's perfectly normal to appreciate talent while admitting you just saw something that doesn't work. You're never going to listen to that piece again, nor do you want to, come on. You don't have to be a musician to understand that was not great. Plus he made 4 mistakes and had 2 pauses because he got lost, so even the performance wasn't THAT "amazing".
