Amen. So obvious. How come I, MOI, did not think of that witticism? But seriously: it's pretty hard (maybe never totally possible?) to get a performance up there to the level of ANY Bach score. (He didn't leave a single dud. Not one!! Dammit.) BUT when text, notes and performance align?! OmG, literally. DAS ist tatsächlich *wohlgetan* wie noch nie. And I am inspired to tryn make this same thing happen in my relationships, work, political involvement, and with anyone entreating me who genuinely needs something I might be able to give. interesting choice of the extremely slow tempo for the duet (I have the feeling that it's a smidge too slow actually, listening to the woodwinds) -more of a meditation on the 'bitterness' and 'delusion' than a depiction of a 'struggle' (looking at the text), but a very fascinating effect nonetheless

BWV 99 - "Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan" II Cantata for the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity 1. Chorale What God does is well done, His will remains righteous; However he begins my affairs, I will silently keep to Him. He is my God, who in need knows well how to sustain me; therefore I let Him alone rule. 2. Recitative B His word of truth stands fast and will not betray me, since it will not let the faithful fall or be destroyed. Indeed, since he leads me on the path of life, my heart shall take hold of itself and be content in God's fatherly love and mercy and shall have patience, when a mishap disturbs me. God, with His almighty hands, can turn aside my misfortune. 3. 3. Aria T Do not shudder, despairing soul, when the cup of suffering tastes so bitter! God is your wise doctor and miracle-worker, therefore He cannot offer you deadly poison, although its sweetness might be concealed. 4. Recitative A Now, the covenant sealed from eternity shall remain the foundation of my faith. It speaks with confidence in death and life: God is my light, I will give myself to Him. Even if every day has its particular trouble, yet after the sorrow withstood, when one has wept enough, the time of redemption comes at last, when God's loyal intention is made clear. 5. 5. Aria (Duet) S A When the bitterness of the cross struggles with the weakness of the flesh, neverthless it is well done. Whoever, through misapprehension, considers the cross unbearable, will also in the future never share delight. 6. Chorale What God does, is well done, I will cling to this. Along the harsh path trouble, death and misery may drive me. Yet God will, just like a father, hold me in His arms: therefore I let Him alone rule. "Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan," Samuel Rodigast 1674 (verses 1,2,4,6 - mov'ts. 1,2,4,6; source for the others)

I think it is a copy of a Heinrich Grenser flute, made by Fridjof Aurin. It certainly looks like the H. Grenser shown on Aurin's site, and Root has been seen playing other Aurin-made flutes.

I wonder why so many basses need to pretend to be women, so they can sing alto. I'm surprised more altos don't claim sexual harrassment, due to their being squeezed out by the fake altos. Come on, they (women) can sing alto with their natural voice, all they need is thicker vocal chords than a soprano..... Just get in line & wait for a chance to sing a bass aria & let the real altos have their moment of glory. Which is not impt in Bach's eyes, since he always said "Soli Deo Gloria". I rest my case.
