no matter what they played, it was HEAVY, in the best way. The new modern bands with fancy amps with pedal boards and multichannel heads and 7 strings cannot compare nor compete with a Strat into a Fender amp and an SG or Les Paul into (whatever Blair used for am amp....lol) and Fred's Rickenbackers into his Traynor mono block. as you said, this entire album just fvkin' kicks.

Saw these guys back when they only had one album. They opened with DON'T GET YOURSELF IN TROUBLE. The whole building was shaking. The first album tends to be overlooked. Not sure why...lots of great songs. GIMME YOUR MONEY PLEASE, HOLD BACK THE WATER, STAYED AWAKE ALL NIGHT, BLUE COLLAR, LITTLE GANDY DANCER and of course DON'T GET YOURSELF IN TROUBLE. Also, the original lineup included a 3rd Bachman brother...Tim on rhythm guitar.

BTO were originally called "Brave Belt", the first line up of Brave Belt were a trio consisting of, Randy Bachman, Chad Allan, both ex-Guess Who, with Randy's youngest brother, Robin Bachman on drums. Brave Belt were a Country Rock outfit, the final line up of Brave Belt had Fred Turner on bass and vocals, they now played a harder rock style, the line up was, Randy Bachman, Fred Turner, Tim Bachman and Robin Bachman. Brave Belt produced two albums, Brave Belt in 1971, and Brave Belt II in 1972, both albums were released on the Reprise label, due to poor record sales, Reprise Records let Brave Belt go and they were left without a record deal. Fortunately Randy secured a recording deal with Charlie Fach at Mercury Records, after a change of name to better represent their harder rock style, the planned Brave Belt III became the debut album by Bachman-Turner Overdrive in 1973. Brave Belt made some great recordings, why not have a listen to "Waterloo Country", it is their most BTO sounding song.

At first I thought you made a mistake and meant Randy Bachman but he's still alive at 80 years old. I had no idea there were 3 other Bachman's in BTO. Robbie Bachman on drums, Tim Bachman and Tal Bachman on guitars. And I've been listening to them since the 1970's. Just never read the album.

I bought this because I had BTO II and then Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet came out and just decided I was gonna get the new album. Another passing. It seems every week we lose some one else. I'm afraid this trend may continue as our rock legends and heroes are reaching a dangerous age. Alas, it's a reminder of our own mortality, especially people like myself who grew up with these people. Ack!! I'm getting old too )-:

Funny enough, BTO's Not Fragile album was a response to Yes's Fragile album. The band said it was nothing against Yes, just that their music was totally opposite to the music of Yes, which is true. Great song by a great group! By the way, Chod, when are you going to react to some more Yes? The band still has some masterpieces from back in the day you have not yet reacted to, like "South Side Of The Sky," which is one of their best songs. It rocks hard, yet has a piano section in the middle (with great backup) that is mind blowing. Rick Wakeman is amazing. RIP Robbie Bachman.

Have you all reacted to " Roll On Down the Highway " yet? Awesome tune.. and one thing about Robbie Bachman and his great drumming, maybe not always getting the credit he deserved, but always consistently there providing the backbone for the heavy, yet melodic sound of BTO. Sometimes being overshadowed by the huge crunching guitars and the strong vocals..

As a 40 year veteran in the music business behind the scenes, I just don't understand why you can't make your comments after the songs are over. Especially classics like this, because the comments you make are not important enough to pause them for and could easily wait. When you pause these songs the way you do, you kill the mood and the feeling the song is creating.
