Bachmann On30 4-6-0 on the Cumberland Point Layout

This is an update of an earlier video showing this On30 4-6-0 on the workbench. Now it's on the layout, and I left the original audio so you can hear the sound system. It's pretty close to the standard Tsunami sound, but was actually transplanted from a Bachmann HO 4-6-0, and attached to a Hi-Bass speaker.

Good eye! Very close. It's actually the Cumberland Point, and the design mimics Walt's Carolwood Pacific design. The story is that Walt liked the Central Pacific, and designed his logo so that he could use the C.P.R.R. marks. So I did the same thing, using photos that I took of Walt's traincars and photos from the internet. The round logo on the boxcar is also adapted from Walt's design. Personally, I would love to see an On30 model of the Fort Wilderness R.R.

I believe the coal load is a product from Scenic Express, glued down with matte medium. It really does improve on the appearance of the stock plastic loads. And I still need to work on that bit of shine around the edges of the bunker.

Very Nice! I did the exact same thing to my On30 ten-wheeler - stealing the sound card from the HO scale 4-6-0! How did the swap go? I had to re-wire almost everything in the tender! For some reason, my swap wasn't plug-and-play... Also, thanks for illustrating the difference between regular HO track, and On30 track, on your beautiful layout!!

The western end of Kentucky, I suppose. It's all fictional, of course, but the idea is that the Cumberland Point R.R. runs to the point where the Cumberland River meets the Ohio River, where it connects with a ferry service. This little town of Sledd Creek is somewhere along the line. But the name was picked because it allows me to emulate the design of Walt Disney's Carolwood Pacific Railroad, which Walt created to emulate the Central Pacific. So it's all the C.P.R.R.

It was so long ago, I can't recall how the sound card swap went! Must not have been too hard. But the loco runs great. And I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the tiny HO 4-6-0 mechanism. Seems like it would make a neat little On30 loco.

Oh ohhhh...the valve gear is backwards on #32! Look at the engineer's side cylinder.

Is that boxcar lettered for the Carolwood Pacific? I can't make out the lettering but that logo looks kind of like the CPRR's. It would be cool if you could kitbash one of the Disneyland Railroad locomotives in ON30.

The sound is from the stock Bachmann speaker in the 4-6-0. Pretty good sound for the time, and it does sound better in person. I think the tech has advanced a bit since then.
