Cumberland Point On30 Layout

Some simple videos of On30 trains on the Cumberland Point Layout. This is a 4' x 11' display layout that is mainly a place to run trains and experiment with scenery. You might be able to see how I've tried to simulate the sky and ambient lighting. Personally, I think it would have worked better if I had made a portable layout that I could take outside for photographs, but the lighting setup works whenever I want to run a train, and not just when the weather is pleasant. Which, this being Kentucky, it most often isn't.

Your layout is FANTASTIC! You are a master at realistic scenery. I've been looking for inspiration for a small layout to build in my office and you have given it to me. I think I may build something similar in N scale to save space. Watching trains run through detailed scenery is my favorite thing to do. This is perfect. Thanks for posting. Please keep the videos coming! PS. My wife said this is the most realistic layout she has ever seen.

With the number of trains in a little over four minutes you must have the busiest and most profitable narrow gauge railroad around, but is is sure fun watching so many kinds of trains. It definitely would be a show stopper at an exhibit.

Thanks, I found an Arc headlight that is similar from Wiseman Models. It looks like its going to be a perfect match for a 2-4-4T project that I'm working on.

Thanks for the comments. Maybe I need to make a video showing the lighting setup, and another at the workbench, showing how the Porter Forney fits together. If I recall correctly, the "Porter Forney" uses a Bachmann Porter cab, with the back set of panels removed to make a door, and the tender from an old IHC HO loco. The trailing truck came from the tender of a Bachmann HO 4-4-0, I think. Maybe at the same time I could replace the crew and add some details.

That Forney sure looks neet, what did you do to chop off the back part and make the new tender?

I THINK it came from Precision Scale, PSH 4661. Or it might be from Wiseman Model Services. I suspect I found it in Keith Wiseman's parts bin at one of the train shows, so its origin is a bit unclear.

Good eye! #5 is a Bachmann Forney, with the back end whacked off. It got a wood cab from Banta, I think, which was stained with oil paint to keep the wood color. The tender is from Keith Wiseman, a resin kit that had to be dremeled out to make room for the sound system. It was one of those long-running projects, but it's a great running loco that handles curves much better than the Forney.

#14 is a BLI Consolidation, with some modification to remove the "Colorado" look, and the cast-on boiler details. The wood cab is from Banta, I think. The tender is from a Bachmann 2-8-0, also with some changes. And, on the video about scenery, there is shot of #18, which is that Bachmann 2-8-0, which was bought in non-running condition on Ebay, and which now has the tender from the BLI 2-8-0. So #14 and #18 traded tenders.

This is true, and the YT music selection is limited. It would be better to edit in sounds of trains passing, and I've done that for the next video. But it takes time.

@@grits3d I disagree, Your choice of music for this video was just perfect and fitted the Old Time theme your have produced in this fantastic layout so perfectly. I only wish you would produce more videos of your layout work. Your a master modeller indeed.
