Then he did this song by Jungle where he shouts out Nas. His next release was the Halftime retake.

Back on 74 was released last year by a group called Jungle, who are also awesome :) He's wearing his suit from Money Game 3, which I think they were doing around the same time. The bass guitarist is his friend Kai, who also acted as Kujo in Kujo Beat Down. The original back on '74 is very different. Ren harmonises like a master. Try Chalk Outlines or How To Be Me for more amazing harmonies.

In life I generally don't have a favourite anything. No favourite food, or colour, or musical genre, but it's quite likely that Ren is now my favourite musician and you may be my favourite reactor. 5:22 absolutely Curtis Mayfield. Smokey Robinson as well 10:24 that's genuinely my favourite part. If I had favourite part that is 😂 24:48 while I get your point, it reminds me of when my bosses would do a performance review and knock off a point on something because "no one is perfect". I was vibing the whole time with this, this is one of my favorite Ren covers. Grabbed my coffee for some sipping when we hit the cup rating. Diablo Swing Orchestra is FUN) But between Ren and an artist from Los Angeles named Darien Martus, I'm back in. They both reach through the cloud of pop nonsense lyrics and hit you right in your soul with some real facts, real feels, and real musicality as well. Funny you mentioned Lauryn Hill. She's among one of Ren's favorite artists. Ren recorded this live. If you're a lover of all music , Ren recently recorded a live track called Mackay. A tribute to a friend that died in 2010. He could never find the words for a song for him, so he ended up with a piano piece only. Btw, I forgot to add. Collum Mackay died 6 months after his best Friend Joe took his life. it hit him so hard that it changed the course of his life. There are 3 songs dedicated to Joe. At that same time symptoms from his Lyme disease started. They didn't figure out that he had it until 2016.

If you want to hear Ren show his singing /harmonies try his collaborations with Chinchilla... Chalk outlines is the one that most react to first, but i think "How to be me" is the standout.... then for a fun song "Bongo Bong".... and one of my favourites is the Fred again mash up, where he transforms EDM music from Fred again into one performance that is incredible and very moving.... all of these are shot in one take... live. Ok, now I am old enough to have ACTUALLY watch Don Cornelius on SOUL TRAIN!! ***WARNING**** I would be remiss if I didn’t explain for those who are unaware of his impact and influence on black culture, especially musically. As a Chicagoan Cornelius was far more than just the host- he was also the writer and producer which broke more than just barriers as a black man in 1970. He grew up in Bronzeville ( a neighborhood that was once called a “ Black Metropolis “) , went to DeSable HS ( notable alumni include Redd Fox, Dinah Washington, Nat “King” Cole, Ella Jenkins, Harold Washington ( who became the first black mayor of Chicago). After graduating he enlisted in the USMC and served his 18 months during the Korean War. Upon discharge he worked a variety of jobs including as an officer in the a Chicago PD. He quit his “ day job “ to enroll in a course on broadcast journalism. THIS WAS IN 1966! * The year I was born * That same year he landed a job as a broadcaster, a reporter and DJ . 1967 - and hosted a news program called A Black's View of the News. In 1970, he launched Soul Train as a daily local show. Eddie Kendricks, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Bobby Hutton and Honey Cone were featured on the national debut episode. “Originally a journalist and inspired by the civil rights movement, Cornelius recognized that in the late 1960s there were very few television venues in the United States for soul music (at the time, only one series, the public television show Soul!, was focused on the genre). He introduced many African-American musicians to a larger audience as a result of their appearances on Soul Train, a program that was both influential among African-Americans and popular with a wider audience.” As writer, producer, and host of Soul Train, Cornelius was instrumental in offering wider exposure to black musicians such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, and Michael Jackson, as well as creating opportunities for talented dancers, setting a precedent for popular television dance programs.Cornelius said, "We had a show that kids gravitated to," and Spike Lee described the program as an "urban music time capsule". With the creation of Soul Train, Cornelius was at the helm of a program that showed African Americans in a new light, creating a Black is Beautiful campaign. Prior to Soul Train, African Americans were only occasionally performing on TV, mostly as guests on white-centered programs. Soul Train showcased African American culture, and brought African American musicians and dancers to television. The show's appeal to white audiences steadily grew and eventually earned a huge following. I WAS A WHITE KID WHO LOVED SOUL TRAIN BECAUSE THE MUSIC WAS FUCKING FIRE!! Even Eddie Kendrick’s from the temptations was a bit more polished and pure than I remembered. But ten has that raspiness that just connects and screams soul. So those influences were always around me ask a kid. In the 1980's I had a chance to see The Temptations twice live, but Curtis was my favorite r+b and soul musician, especially for the reason you mentioned. Speaking of Nina Simone: Not sure if you heard or reacted to Ren and The Big Push's busking mashup of Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard, but it's great on so many levels. In that one, Ren's voice also has that "raspiness that connects and screams soul," and the rest of the band lives up to that too. 🥃(I drink my koolaid in a tumbler.)

I love that you said some people may have fallen out of love with music and he does it in a way that doesn’t feel like pandering… I have never fallen out of love with music… for me music is life! I listen to music all day long no matter what I’m doing. Ren is amazing and I fell into the rabbit hole almost 2 years ago and still listen to him every single day. I still listen to a lot of other music. Pandering for clicks is what gets me completely turned off of certain artists I’m sure if you think about my next statement, you know exactly who I’m talking about…if you have to sit in a politics only lane and spew divisive song content, the only reason you’re doing it is because you’re grabbing a big non rap base because they happen to agree with what you are saying and it’s all about the clicks…
