First thing I thought of when I started down the REN path was that he is the epitome of the Bard of old times. He is a true story teller. He writes his stuff, directs his own stuff, edits his own stuff, etc etc etc. One thing nobody talks about is not only how special he is, but his crew and the ability of REN to choose the right people who surround him.

I never really listened to hip-hop/rap before Ren. One of the things I have enjoyed the most both about listening to his music AND watching reaction videos who break down his lyrics is that it has exposed me to so many other artists that I might have never checked out otherwise. Specifically some of the Hip-Hop/Rap artists that he has given nods to - that I missed as references until reactors called them out. But also, some amazing artists in genres I do enjoy like Barrington Levy in "Murderer" ... and Manu Chau in one of the Big Push covers ... I do enjoy watching others go through the discovery process and vicariously re-experiencing falling in love with Ren from the beginning, but also I've learned so much from fans of music that I missed out on the first time around. Thanks for adding in your own unique insights. Agree with other comments, you are fast becoming a new favorite reactor.

Just like punk grew up out of lower working class kids in the cities, rap is the equivalent that came out of black and POC neighborhoods. One of the first punk bands is Bad Brains which is a black group. There's a lot of crossover in the early years of these two musical genres since they both grew up out of discontent with the status quo, racism, and poverty. This was a quality reaction/discussion. My first viewing of you and I've subscribed. I can see that you are well spoken and insightful. GOOD stuff. I'm a Ren reaction addict and I will check out every Ren reaction you ever do. I hope you explore some of his "The Big Push" stuff. ... Oh, and you mentioned Marvin Gaye... I think you should check out he and Chinchilla Busking "Sexual Healing". Amazing. I don't often find time for the longer reaction vids, but I found myself interested the whole way through. I watch reactions every single night, (not just Ren reactions, but they are probably 50% of my time, at least) for at least 2 to 3 hours, and I follow SO many channels. I haven't read all the comments, but with what you've been talking about with homage, I'm surprised the comments I did scan havent been flooded with Ren's Halftime (Nas Retake). I love when the oldschool rap reactors find that one. But Ren nods to people from all over, just like you're saying. Talking about "bumping Nat King Cole" in Power as readily as hip hop, jazz (this one), ska, etc greats. And he is absolutely big into all of it... if it isn't in his rap, it's in the stuff he did with his band - The Big Push's most reacted to video is the I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop mashup.
