@@TheGrumpyNerd no I don't think its that most of the reaction channels aren't big. Usually the best way to increase subscribers is to start reacting to Baby Metal and stay away from anything not live because amuse entertainment are completely mental, I think they would prefer it iff no one had ever heard of their product. Band Maid except for a couple of songs they did for tv shows although the just released rinne is being reacted to by every man and his dog, and ofcourse Nightwish have their own army and they bring a lot of traffic to a channel. The great thing about Nightwish fans is that they are not scared off the comments are already numerous and they are friendly. It could be that Google is upset with your country or a national security agency or agreement all sorts of stuff happens. Here in Australia even iff something gets taken down we sometimes still get it because the government won't allow anything to be taken down for 2 years after posting so that they can track people who commit crimes. Your just really unlucky. You can probably blame Jordan Peterson (My son just bought his book to read on the plane).

Yes they are professionally trained, Miku (band founder, rhythm guitar, lyricist) come out the Jpop system; Kanami,(lead guitar, song writer) Piano at age 6, college training, though she has degrees in Economics & Marketing, Akene (drummer) and MISA (always in caps), (bass) are from the Tokyo School of Music and piano from 6 yo. As to age they are in their late twenties and the band was put together in 2013. Their breakout was when one day they checked KZbin and Thrill, first MV, had 3 million views. The majority of the views US and Europe hence tours in the west with Japan catching up after the rave reviews from the US and Europe. Expect them to tour in the west in 2020.

That is exactly right. They signed with Live Nation for a very good reason. Many here in the states don't fully understand that contracts to appear at major festivals are often times negotiated two or even three years in advance. I agree with you about their excellent musicianship. As corroborating evidence of that, when Jimmy Page of Led Zepplin caught a Band-Maid concert in London, he took a photo with Akane (Band-Maid's drummer) after the show and told her that she was the reincarnation of John Bonham! High praise from one of Bonham's bandmates!
@markdzima5 жыл бұрын
@@chrisbergsten1429 I'm going by this: www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/bjs0qq/jimmy_page_just_after_seeing_the_band_play_in/ With a photo of the two together, it says: "Jimmy Page just after seeing the band play in Tokyo in 2016. He complimented Akane and said she was the reincarnation of John Bonham. Akane was star struck. She later said Mr Jimmy Page-san offered her much encouragement and she promised to do her best."
@VladimirChupin5 жыл бұрын
@@markdzima There was a refutation later on 😉 Akane never mentioned anything like this in her reports about this meeting. And even later, there was a discussion that this "John Bonham reincarnation" thing could be due to language differences. Like, Jimmy Page could say that Akane plays in the spirit of his late drummer, and the translator could translate it as "Akane-san sounds like a reincarnation of John Bonham-san." Because Akane indeed plays very much like him, there can be no denial. She's actually more energetic and more technically proficient (yes, that's what I am convinced of), because BAND-MAID music requires that energy, but as far as the style of drumming is concerned, she's very much a reincarnation of John Bonham. She is equally creative, and also treats her drums as a melody maker, not just a "rhythm section."
@markdzima5 жыл бұрын
@@VladimirChupin Interesting. Can you give me some guidance on how to find that "refutation"? I certainly don't want to be responsible for spreading misinformation. And perhaps I should add that I never thought that Page would have meant any reincarnation comment to be taken literally.
@VladimirChupin5 жыл бұрын
@@markdzima The only reliable info we have is a twit from Akane, and then her comment in a later interview. It's all in the comments to the Reddit post you cited. In another Reddit post we continued the discussion, and decided among ourselves, that for the sake of promotion we may *choose to believe* that Jimmy Page said that. His exact words are not known, the meeting with Akane was obviously too short, and nobody recorded it on camera. But we may *interpret* his intention this way. He was impressed with her drumming, therefore --> for a member of Led Zeppelin band to be impressed with somebody's drumming means that the person in question is at least not worse than John Bonham --> Akane is like John Bonham. Jimmy Page has probably forgot about her a few days after that, because he never gave any promotion to them afterwards. I'm sure he meets a lot of young and promising musicians all the time, and Japan is a storehouse of absolutely terrific drummers.
@sacluvsBM5 жыл бұрын
@@markdzima This is easily explainable. Let's start with what we know happened at the rock festival in Tokyo in 2016. Mr. Page was in attendance. He specifically asked to meet with Akane. He did not ask to see Band-Maid or any other band. He talked with her for several minutes. Akane was star struck. And here is what she said about that meeting. "Mr. Jimmy Page-san offered me much words of encouragement. I promised him l would do my best to live up to his words." I read a meme from a fan on Band-Maid's Japanese home page who said Page praised Akane and said she played with the same enthusiasm or spirit that his former drummer did. I believe, but do not know for sure that Jimmy said something along those lines. Translation from English to Japanese and back again could easily have come across as she plays with the spirit of Bonham. And that word spirit could easily be translated as ghost or reincarnation of the late, great John Bonham. This is the most plausible explanation. Regards.

stephen wilson Japan is very supportive of musical education. Akane, Kanami and MISA started learning classical piano at 3-4 years old. Kanami and MISA have perfect pitch according to Kanami. Akane and MISA played in classical ensembles when they were younger. Akane on trombone and MISA on English horn. English Horn is a double reed instrument similar to the oboe, which is really difficult. So, yes, more than a few years and serious musical education.

The poppy influence you hear is a strong J-Pop influence in the singing, melody lines, lyric lines. A lot of the lyric lines are very rhythmic which helps blend with the harder rock influences. They do borrow from pop - punk, but it is more J-pop - punk, which is a thing.

Great reaction. I do have to say though that it seems many times when a song is "catchy" it's often characterized wrongly as "pop", regardless how purely rock the other elements are. I mean, think about songs on top of the pop charts now. Do you hear crunchy guitar riffs, a busy drummer (not a drum machine,) a rhythm section that can toss around odd time signatures, and a virtuoso bass player, featured on any of the latest offerings from Justin Beiber, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, or any of the other factory extruded clones? Band-Maid may not be death growl metal, and they may employ familiar and melodic refrain-chorus-refrain patterns, but I hesitate to consign them to the "pop" camp just because of that. You gotta catch them in concert if they ever swing by you. These girls rock. Even their pop stuff :)

This is one of the few songs that they haven't been able to 100% capture the same feeling live, at least in the 2 pro shot recordings that we have of it, so it's probably better to react to the studio version first. This doesn't happen with many of their songs though. I recommend Take Me Higher live to be the next one, it's got a very 80s rock vibe and awesome instrumental work from all of them, even Miku (the rhythm guitar player and backup vocalist) shines in this one.

@@borntraitor289 Although it was oddly quiet at the Mercury Lounge, it was only that song that seemed lacking. The same was true in London, and Kanami was loud there. Maybe there's just something in the mix, or the settings for the guitar that's hard to recreate live.

You're not the first person to make the Paramore comparison and there are some similar punk echoes with Paramore's older stuff like "Misery Business" and "Decode", but that's all it is, just a faint echo. Band-Maid has far superior musicians from top to bottom and play harder and heavier than they ever did. Paramore's later stuff is "poppy" crap ("Hard Times", "Fake Happy") in my opinion and has become all about Hayley Williams. Band-Maid will never ever become all about lead singer Atsumi Saiki.
@stephenchigwidden75045 жыл бұрын
Well until very recently Saiki was a bit of a misery guts and Miku would struggle to get her to contribute to interviews and she was a bit sullen remember she is a bit younger than the rest of the band. In America she seems to have come out of her shell and is having a good time. There was an interview on Ameba tv in Japan where as usual Saiki didn't want to participate and was gently scolded by Miku. At the same time there was a live feed coming in with fans asking questions and Saiki started running completely amok. One fan asked how they spend their time just before they go on stage. Saiki starts telling him that she likes to squeeze the other girls boobs and slap their bottoms describing Misa's bottom as particularly rewarding to slap. Miku looked like she wanted to dissapeer. But its these quirks combined with the individual talent and what appears to be a genuine affection for each other that will prevent Band Maid ever being about just one person.
