They are not related, but VERY CLOSE with each other. They are also really good friends and spending time together even without work, shows or anything like that. Akane and MISA f.e. are best friends, they went to the same musical school in Tokyo for many years and both have an jazz background, maybe that´s also explaining why they can improvise, filling and playing so damn good! For me it´s the best rhythm duo on the planet right now. And if you combine that with an awesome singer, an insane guitar workhorse (writing most of the songs) and an little pigeon with the plan to take over the world with the will and talent to fill everything thats missing (lyrics, backing vocals and rhythm guitar) ... You got Band-Maid :) They are outstanding!

Be careful of falling deep down the rabbit hole guys. The "Domination" CD was in my car player for a solid year until it was replaced by Band-Maid's latest album "Conqueror". I find myself listening to little else when I have the choice. You've been warned.

With a new single on December 2nd and the new CD out in January Band-Maid is fast becoming one of the most prolific songwriting and record making bands of all time. And every single song is quality. The only acts l can find who put out more songs in a comparable period of time, which is now about 8 years, are the Beatles, Stones, Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Bob Dylan and Neil Young. All over (and some a lot over) 100 songs. This alone puts Band-Maid in rare company. Now couple that with the fact that they are the most personable, charismatic, talented, compelling and often misunderstood hard rock band working anywhere on the planet today and you can begin to understand why Sacramento loves Band-Maid and l have it on damn good authority that there are a host of places around the globe who feel the very same way. If anyone had told me just six years ago l would become a deranged fanboy for an 810 year old pigeon l would have looked at them like they had rocks in their head. And that's a fact.

What makes or breaks a good/great band is the rhythm section. And those two are just outstanding. To me, Akane is the driving force behind the Band-Maid express.

When you strip down their sound to its rhythmic core, there's a bit of a bouncy Ventures vibe that runs through a lot of their sound and gives it that happy poppy groove. They like to bounce that groove back and forth a lot and hand it off as they do their mini solos.

Freedom is 7 years old. Domination is 3 years old. Wait until you start listening to what came off of Conqueror. The mix at this concert was not their best as they used room mics and not straight off the boards. Zepp tokyo 2018 is the best mixed concert you will hear, but it’s mostly not on youtube since this concert came out on blu ray. While kanami writes the songs, akane and misa write the rythym sections themselves. This is why they sound so tight and in sync. Akane, Misa and Kanami are widely considered the best in their instrument worldwide right now and the praise just increases as more people are exposed to them. 7 years ago, Miku did not know how to play guitar at all land has been taught by Kanami. Play live shows how far she has come in such a short amount of time. Its also why Kanami likes to walk over to her a lot ever since they went with full wireless kits at the end of last year.

It's hard to find keyboard players for band stuff because they're either classically trained concert pianists, or they're overbooked. Everyone and their dog wants to be a rock musician... so guitar it is. Everyone forgets how important keyboards have been for rock and metal and that you can shred with them as well :D

Miku worked in a maid cafe, while in school. She got the idea for the band. She heard of Kanami, and asked her to join.Kanami knew Akane, got her to join. Akane knew Misa from school. Misa and Seike werent as fond of maid outfits, why they are in more concierge, festivity director like outfits. Kanami writes and composes the music, Miku writes the lyrics. Misa adds the bass stuff. They have interviews out to get more details on their formation. Jimmy Paige saw them live in 16, and loved them, called Akane one of best drummers, since Bonham. Took photos with them. Misa-bass, Kanami- lead guitar, Miku- rythum/vocal, Akane-drums, Seike- vocals. Rinne is a harder song. Dont you tell me(live), has Kanami and Misa trading off solos. Blooming, has two Kanami solos. Moratorium, is an awesome song. On Set, is an instrumental, showcasing the bands technicality. Bass solo, Kanami shreds, and does the most incredible tapping runs, very EVH mixed with Gilmore feel.

@sacluvsBM
@sacluvsBM 3 жыл бұрын
Even more fun fact: none of them play the instruments that they started with. The closest is Kanami who does play piano on a couple of songs. Kanami did not pick up the guitar until high school. And the only reason she says she did that was to be cool with her classmates. Kobato Miku is an exception in that she did not play any instrument before Band-Maid. Sacramento loves these ladies.

Nice! I'm 45, been into heavy music for like...33-34 years. Avoided Band Maid because of the image, thought they were a gimmick, the Baby Metal effect, etc. These guys snuck onto my autoplay one day while doing chores... and BLOWN away. After this... pull up the live for "PLAY". The chorus is intentionally very poppy, but that brings the audience into the song nicely. Might be biased as it was the song that started my journey down the Band Maid rabbit Hole, but they are currently one of my top 5 favorite "hard rock/heavy metal" bands, right up there with Iron Maiden, Metallica, Nightwish and Opeth

Also, as a drummer (you, not me, I'm just a terrible bass player), I hope to see you break down more of Akane's technique. I love the limp wrist/marionette action she has doing on, instead of the death grip I see so many drummers mistake for being a power thing. She does a drum cover for Maximum the Hormone's "Bento Sandal Dance" that really shows here style nicely.

Yeah, at the Line Cube concert they went for more room mics than direct from the board sound to get the crowd reaction. Consequently the guitars and bass are very unfocused compared to the Studio Coast and Zepp Tokyo concerts. You were right the first time, Akane. You could go anywhere from here. 'Puzzle' LIVE, or some BAND-MAIKO songs, or other Music Videos like 'Blooming' or 'Rinne'.

Nice!, great job man. Well, about the mix: This is their third DVD released and this is the one less post edited so you can hear the crowd, so being a wide space (three floors) the lead guitar and the bass (but not drums and vocals) lacks some volume during the entire concert (that is something also commented by the people who went to the concert, not sure if that was a technical decission). The other two are Studio Coast and Zepp Tokyo, heavily postproduced to avoid crowd noise, but you can hear the instruments in all their dinamic range which is absolutely awesome. In their official channel you can listen to three songs of Zepp Tokyo (2018) "Real Existence", "Cross" and "Onset". Onset is an instrumental and I highly recommend it to better know of what level of musicianship and songwritting we are talking about. Prepare to be amazed.

I found Band-Maid about two years ago while being bored at work watching silly Japanese Music videos. (see Baby Metal "Gimme Chocolate"). They kept popping up in my recommendations, but the thumbnail clearly showed them wearing silly Maid costumes. But hey, that day I was watching silly videos. OMFG! is all I can say. After you watch and listen to these musicians you will never think of them as silly. The first thing I focused in on was the Drummer. I had assumed this was just another Pop-Idol group where the girls just sing and dance, looking cute as they do their thing. But from the first ("Start Over") the Drummer was clearly playing a funky tasteful groove. It went from this kind of light guitar pop to slowly built up piece that had me clicking on the next one on the list: "Thrill." A total throwback to 80s Hard Rock nearly Metal. The drummer is sprinkling in double pedals and just keeping it rock solid. At this point I'm impressed and had to keep going. "Real Existence" is what put me over the edge. Akane (I had read the comments to find out her name at this point) goes completely Keith Moon wild on the drums while never losing control. Each verse, each chorus and the guitar solo all have multiple sub sections on the drums. So, after watching every last official video on their channel multiple times, made my first iTunes purchase EVER (and first money spent on new music in DECADES) I called up a friend of mine who had played guitar professionally in Japan back in the 90s. "Dude, I just found THE MOST AMAZING Japanese band! and they're all girls! and all dressed up li...." "Oh, you found Band-Maid, here, let me send you a link" ONSET. I think I cried as Kanami tapped her way accorrs the strings.

Check out "PLAY" Live from the same concert, they did a great intro for this tune, I think they change the intro for each concert. You'll find it on their KZbin channel.

For this concert, they wanted to capture the crowd reaction, so they utilized a different configuration than they normally do. Got more ambient noise from the room. The guitars were not forward in the mix. In other concerts, their sound better captures the guitars and the separation between them. Try this live video from an earlier concert, its an instrumental and the guitars definitely shine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4fVf2CglLqWZrc&ab_channel=BANDMAID

In response to the "random bass solo" comment. MISA has several solos in their music. There is a small bass/lead guitar battle in Play (Live).

In case you didn’t know, when they gather around the drummer, they all make faces at her ( and her back) to get them all to laugh and mess up their playing….seems to never work, but they have so much fun.

YES, Kanami (lead guitar) should be more forward in the mix, thank you. Also, thank you for doing another BAND-MAID video. One thing they're GREAT at is miccing the drums on their live shows. Akane always comes through crystal clear. Don't be afraid to pause and talk. That's part and parcel of doing reaction vids, and keeps you from copyright issues. Nice job.

As a drummer I appreciate songs like "Bubble" and "Dice" more, they have some surpricing and fairly difficult twists despite being very simple refrains.

A new/old sound (70's-90's Hard Rock/Metal). Their composition, sound quality, and execution of their music is matched only by their lengthy song catalog of potential #1's. Their music is original and new, and yet it feels very familiar and fresh. They have many fans from the 70's. Find their throwaway song that feels like time filler/killer. Ain't none.

I believe the pronunciation of Akane rhymes with the word ramen. I saw a video of Band-Maid playing somewhere in Europe and the crowd was chanting Akane's name to get her to play a drum solo. The crowd was pronouncing her name the way you did in the video and she corrected them saying her name rhymes with ramen.

BAND-MAID is the best. If you want some incredible tasty drumming check out Real Existence live and Rinne MV for sheer power then Wonderland live and Daydreaming MV for finesse (live version is even better but not available on KZbin anymore). But ANY of their videos will blow you away!

Again a very good analysis. Of course you get a lot of suggestions for band-maid songs and they are all good. But the measure of all things is clearly "Real Existence" live 2018! The song is not suitable for radio, hard and fast but (for certain reasons ☺) nevertheless very complex. The band offers a fantastic performance and Akane shows where it goes. Every other band should look at this! I know you will love it because you are a musician yourself. After that you will know how good Band-Maid really is!
