That's just it, though. NONE of those explorers believed the Earth was flat, that's why they were taking those voyages West to reach the far East of India, and their trading partners. As far as the people who came to this land in order to find, ironically, religious freedom, or to seek economic opportunity, I doubt many of them ever gave a second thought to the issue. To most people of that time, the issue was settled, buy voyagers who had Sales West, reach the Far East comiket sailing west, and made it home. A flat Earth of any design does not allow you to do that.

And make conclusions based on the results of their own research. What the majority of flat-earthers do is that they have a Preferred Hypothesis (which is the most biased form of hypothesis-testing ever), and they look for bits and pieces that might support it, while purposefully ignoring everything that contradicts their point of view. Like circumnavigation, space programs, the movements of the stars, astronomy, etc. It's cherry-picking at best, and mental retardation at worst. And half of them aren't even trying to prove that the conventional view of the Earth is wrong. Their primary argument is "Everything is a lie, we know the Truth." The atmosphere has a mass of 1.135x10^19 lbs or according to Britannica 5.5 Quadrillion tonnes, all of which is bearing down over the entire surface area of the earth via the earth's gravity. Along with that, the amount of gravity the earth exerts on all objects makes the dynamic as simply: we are pulled toward the earth, the earth is not pulling towards us (even though we do exert an amount of gravity to the earth, however it is negligible because of the sheer amount of force in the opposite direction toward the earth due to difference in mass. Essentially this becomes like an enclosed space, which feels the same as riding in a car going hundreds of miles per hour. It's like when driving, the signs on the side of the highway seem to zip by while the trees in the distance seem to pass slower, when the speed at which the car is travelling does not change. It is based upon our perception (specifically the distance of the objects from the moving car which alters the way we process the speed of which it moves)

The earth isnt holding up other planets. Lastly the sun model doesnt work either. Simple test. Get a flashlight. Go into a dark room. Point the flashlight at the wall. Now stand next to the point you are using to point light at but still stay in the darkness. Look towards the room...do you see the light from the flashlight...yes...so you would see the sun too. Sanjay and Pixie, there is a definition of globe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globe. You see, by definition the globe is spherical. Pixie, the spinning and rotation have nothing to do with making it look round. If it were to spin really fast, then yes, you would see the roundness like spinning a coin. But the thing is that planets generally spin once every so much hours.

The concept was still not accepted by most until late 18th and early 19th century. The greek philosophy about a spherical earth was based on position of constellations and observations made by travelers... Which is not reliable BUT at around newton's time the concept had gained mathematical explanation... Very first of them being present in "principia".
