😇 How old are you? 23
📝 What are you studying? I am set to start my MA in English Literature at Oxford this autumn.
📚What are your favourite books? • 200 book recommendatio...
📚 Do you have a book club? Yes! You can join it here for free: fable.co/club/reading-with-th...
📝 Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!
🎃 Do you have merch? I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. These are all designed with students in mind and follow models which I've used when planning my studying. Our products are printed in pastel colours on recycled paper: bit.ly/3wgsR85
🍵 What's your favourite tea? That's a REALLY hard one, but I think I'd have to say the B&B Chocolate Digestive Tea: bird-and-blend-tea-co.sjv.io/youwilllovethisone (affiliate link)

I like her. It’s good that she shares her academic journey although I hope that, by doing so, she doesn’t overwhelm herself with too much work. My school education ended in the ‘80’s and because of the high unemployment, my demographic and the kind of school I attended, I didn’t know anyone who went to university, let alone Oxford! So Ruby’s channel is a window into a world I never experienced. I have a daughter her age!

@@Karen-ve6ds yes, I love her! She’s a young girl living her best life and she’s so hugely enthusiastic about all her plans and projects, it’s very sweet to see it! She’s also unashamedly bookish, intellectual, classy, and reserved. What a breath of fresh air in this day and age! And yes, I have children her age. I was at university more than 30 years ago, and I still love academia, so it’s lovely and relaxing to dip back into a world where your ‘job’ is to sit and read books all day! Keep doing what you do, Ruby! We love you!

The Books Unbound podcast have coined a term 'Mashed Potato' books for those books that you really want to read but keep putting off reading until the right time. They also do Mashed Potato May, when they make sure to read one or some of their mashed potato books. It's called mashed potato because they love mashed potato and always leave it to the end of a meal and the metaphor is that sometimes you are disappointed with them because they are not as good as you expected or they have gone cold or you are full and wish you had eaten (read) then earlier.

@soothingszelam2607
@soothingszelam2607 Ай бұрын
@Voguegirl-dn5vy 1. motivation is important, think about why you wanna study, for me, it's more about my self interest to learn new things and some part is related to my work, that's why it keeps me motivated to continue for that 2. I find it is very effective to divide tasks into small sub milestone. 3. you can utilize some small piece of time, during lunch hour, during small breaks or traveling time to read materials, do some research on new topics and do some studies 4. establish the learning environment, I find it is very useful to establish my own study environment/atmosphere such as cleaning my desk, playing some slow relaxing music, preparing some snacks and warm tea etc. 5. during work, it's important that you focus only for work and during study, it is important that you don't think about work and just focus on study, so that you can ensure your quality of performance for both side of tasks 6. regular physical exercise helps you to calm down and relax your mindset 7. reward yourself when you complete a sub task, eg. go for a walk and enjoy with friends etc. 8. prioritize work duties and discuss with your boss earlier about your leave plan and expected off work time and plan work arrangement in advance if possible I hope the above helps.

Interesting video, in Belgium students master at least 3 languages and are encouraged to read writers in their native language (e.g. French authors should be read in French to get all the intended nuances of the text = not so easy for Sartre) 🧐 As a book collector I tend to go for hardcover editions only although a cheap paperback is always useful as a real reading copie to highlight passages. Did You already read about Oxford-educated Gertrude Lowthian Bell, famous female writer, traveller and archaeologist? Try: The Uncrowned king & the desert queen. T. E. Lawrence and Gertrude Bell. OH GOD I LOVE CREATIVITY FLOWS Dear Ruby, I wasnt really in the mood to write tonight but your intro music and some images of the book i've been reading were still in my mind. So naturally i repeated your intro some 20 times and well.... since no one aorund me knows english, your the only person i can share what u have inspired. Trying to get over the resistance of sharing my writings so here we go...... Standing on the ciff edge. The world beneth me, at my feet. Its a sea of fog. Unseen and without sound. Its a grey canvas as far as the eye can see. Its strange to think that all I have seen and shall ever experiance is contained between these almost invisible lines of earth and murky landscape. How humbling it is to know that the thread to which I cling calling ''life'' and the moments of passion and vilonce which I call ''living'' are so minute and insignificant. The fog is never affected by my heart's feeling of intensity. But the intensity canges my precption of the fog. The fog remains still. At my feet,but slowly growing. Encapsuating ,me within it. Every moment passing and a limb of mine lost to the unaltered part of the mortal world. The heart no longer racing. Almost dormant. Like a fatigue overcomming my soul. Then leaving me, Its temporary abode. It becomes a part of the mist. Its a sea of fog. Once seen and with sound. I see now how all I've ever seen and experianced was contained in the completley invisible lines of my conscious. This was obv just some emotion based writing and for an unskilled 15 yr old like me, quite difficult to portray. But thankyou again for inspiring a creative spark in me tonight.
