I've learned that instead of cramming meet ups with friends in before/during the holidays, it's easier to just make plans with them in January and February. That way, there is still a lot to look forward to during the time of the year that can be lonely and mentally challenging. My friends and I love it because it's a lot less stressful and we get to enjoy each other more. Last time we got together, one of my friends was getting her instructor hours in by teaching a silks class (where you hang and do yoga from big silk cloth hung on the ceiling). Then we went to dinner at an authentic China restaurant (the same friend is Chinese) and we all had a wonderful time talking and catching up. Also, this year, my husband and I left the Christmas lights on outside. This is the time of year we need the coziness, fun and cheerfulness. I think we take them down too early. Also, I try to make things cozy as much as possible. And I really got into this when I started watching Ruby's videos back long before she went to Exeter. I burn candles when I work, I put those ambience videos on for music. I make tea or cocoa, put on warm socks and get under a heated blanket...all while working.

When you were speaking about women in print it reminded me of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See. Women with bound feet in Hunan, China were not taught to write because it was men's work. They created their own language through embroidery and sent fans and other feminine crafts to communicate with one another. We must keep searching out the voices of women in history!

The bookbinding seminar looks amazing!!! I want to look into learning more about bookbinding. I first became intrigued by bookbinding from reading Kate Carlisle's cozy Bibliophile mysteries which focus on a San Francisco bookbinder. But from my work as a bookseller for ten years, I came to love books even more than I did as a literature student. Now I work at a public library part-time in addition to teaching online classes. But I would also love to learn bookbinding, too!! :D

The donuts look delish. Also, if you don't mind me suggesting - when you brush your hair, start from the very bottom of the length and slooooowly work your way. up. This will work through the tangles better and cause less damage than brushing from the middle (from a fellow longhaired person - I didn't learn this until I was much older!).

Russian classic writers are some of the best writers ever in history! Their books have a lot of soul, a richness one can barely find in the writers who nowadays receive the Nobel Prize for Literature, like Kazuo Ishiguro. The novel 'Klara and the Sun' is a to throw in the bin compared to 'Crime & Punishment'. But apparently they don't have anyone to give the prize to anymore, unfortunately....
