Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

My father-in-law milked 80 head of cows, starting about 5 in the morning and then his youngest son milk them in the evening. He couldn't wait for school to be out for summer, my oldest son would spend the summer on the farm and ride in the tractor with Grandpa. He kept him from falling asleep and if he did my son woke him up right away.

On a dairy farm I worked on in high-school, a few goose hunters set up in one of our fields I was spreading liquid manure in. Between loads I asked the farmer if they had permission to hunt there. He said no and told me to get rid of them. I filled the tanker and spread the load on their decoys. Not a word was said from the hunters and they never came back.

Good job coming back to help your dad Onyx. When I was your age, I had to catch bales of alfalfa, stack them on on the trailer, and then stack them in the barn. Putting a field into a cover crop supporting pollinators is a great idea. You are on the flyway for the monarch butterflies. Nice to attract the ground beetles and ladybugs to name a few beneficial insects. Great to start up an apiary if any of the ladies of the family wanted to try it. Or perhaps try some of those 60 inch corn with a cover crop to capture carbon as discussed on those podcasts. 🍁👍😎

That is absolutely infuriating when hunters trespass. We have no problem letting people hunt our land if they ask. A lot of people seem to think that farm land is public property. We have a farm that borders a wildlife hunting area with a nice slough for waterfowl hunting. The hunters would use the driveway that used to go to the farmstead & get back to the slough & then use the field to launch their duck boats & to park. That field was packed down so it was like a parking lot. We put up no trespassing signs & they broke them & drove over them. We finally bulldozed the driveway out & that seemed to stop them. Good luck with the rest of harvest.

Little corner of a corn field that never had crops. We get out there and there was a farmer that came out of his tractor like his hair was on fire screaming at us for trespassing. Come to find out, the guy who gave us permission sold the land over the summer and forgot to tell the new guy. Went to work for the new farmer the next year and still have permission to hunt it to this day. Haha

Maby the hunters had permission from the previous land owner but usually you contact owners a few times a year . Just wonder ?

You need permission EVERY year - that's normal etiquette !!

When I bought my land and built a house I had deer hunters driving my woodland behind my house for a couple of years before they figured out someone else owned it.

Great quote for you as a farmer. “Agriculture is the greatest and fundamentally the most important of our industries. The cities are but the branches of the tree of national life, the roots of which go deeply into the land. We all flourish or decline with the farmer.” - Bernard Baruch, attributed, 'American Agriculture: A Brief History'.

I don't know about the rest of your people but I appreciate that you get out with the camera and make contact and I also appreciate that you know when not to this is actually response to one of your last videos I don't remember which one it was but thank you very much for the content that you do produce! And I reported one of the other comments it wasn't appropriate for this channel

@@GenXFarmer88 happy too! It wasn't real nasty but you could read the intent between the lines & i'd hate for the children/wife to have seen it... It was real inappropriate & shameful plugging for adult content

I'm glad to see how the channel has grown and remember when I started watching and you had less than 50k subscribers. Watched every video since then, best of luck the rest of harvest.

Zack those Def nozzles are a pain we fight them all the time at the pumps for semis my suggestion is to make sure the breather tube in those nozzles is clear the smallest plug will cause it to think its full and click off a wire barrel brush up in there should help

As the resident truck driver on our farm I've learned that if the combine driver has to get out and kick the dirt to see if it's dry enough for me.... I'll just go turn around down at the next intersection! 🙂
