Those guys at Rockstar did an incredible job in the writing of this game only a handful of games back then were really putting this much of an emphasis in their dialogue/story telling. Also in rdr2 it was nice seeing John at camp usually reading a book or news paper explains why he’s so well spoken and quick witted in the original. Cant wait for more!

1:48 so much nostalgia coming back after all those years hearing those first sounds. I played the hell out of it at release and for many years. After playing the main story i played several years online mulitplayer, also the addon Undead nightmare until hackers totally destroyed the online experience and rockstar did nothing about it. I only lost track of it because of the online hacking. Watching you playing it will bring back so many good memories. Im up for it. This was the first game ever where i totally stopped playing every now and then for a peaceful moment to watch the scenery, the wildlife, the sunset at the horizon. Even RDR2 as beautiful as it is, did not have this effect of first time experiencing something new. I love this game.

It's the part right before this for me, LOL, the zigzag lead up to hitting the guy, you see it from so far away like "no, no surely not.." Then the facial expressions, pogchamp -> Kirby just ate someone -> "Howdy" -> "I just spun out in my car on black ice and shit my pants" -> Hide the Pain Harold meme smile.

On the train coming down from Blackwater, Bonnie McFarlane was sitting right in front of Jenny, the girl having a religeous discussion with the priest. You might remember her name from RDR2, when you found a man dying by the shore of the Lake. He had a letter to Bonnie stating he was gon' make his fortune and be a good husband to her, even her father would say so. He'd had a dream of them growing old and happy together. (so much for dreams)

I know how important music and its atmosphere is to you, so I hope to help you avoid making the mistake that I did in my first playthrough. Without spoiling when/how/where it happens, a moment similar to "Arthur's last ride" occurs several hours into the game. If you get off of your horse, it'll cancel the music and ruin a beautiful moment. So if you find yourself spawned on your horse after a cutscene and a long battle with some dead bodies you might want to loot, resist the urge to get off the horse. Stay on it and just ride. Veteran players will surely know what scene I'm talking about, but please don't spoil it for Eralia. I played RDR1 when it came out, and RDR2's epilogue had a ton of fan service for players of the first game. The map, the outfit, the origin of John's facial scar at the beginning of RDR2, the poses and camera angles, and the music. There are even a few more callbacks in RDR 2 Online that weren't in the story mode. I think you recognize this game's main theme from John's RDR 2 combat missions. It's still epic when it first plays at the Geddes ranch at 2:16:38 of your RDR2 Part 30 video.

Even with some random and funny hiccups here n there, this game is so incredibly well done. I will never forget the feeling of uncertainty in what I was getting into seeing John walk off of that ferry. I know you're going to enjoy this - especially since you're fresh off of the RDR2 high. The game came out in May of 2010 and was incredible for its time. Still is in most ways with how it looks. Also to go along with when you said "$50 dollars in this economy?!". This version of the game actually caused a bit of grief with fans a few months back, when it came out. As people were expecting a remake/remaster...its neither of those. Its a port at 60FPS. The exact same game from 2010 re-released for $50 😭

Excited to watch this!! In terms of the timeline, as I think it would help you contextualise both games; Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place in 1899 with Arthur. The Epilogue takes place in 1907. Red Dead 1 takes place in 1911 (3 years before the First World War) - Rockstar went really heavy into the "end of the wild west" vibes here. I think Rockstar's continuity is really quite good but since RDR1 released in 2010, I think it was inevitable that some of the plot of RDR2 was not planned ahead at that time. Sadie and Charles probably didn't exist when they made RDR1, hence why they both left in the epilogue.
@b.u.l.1734
@b.u.l.1734 11 ай бұрын
Arthur also didn't exist back then and isn't mentioned anywhere in this game, but I think R* did a good job "fixing" that by having John say in RDR 2's epilogue that he doesn't like to talk about Arthur 'cause it's too painful.

"No one told me, Red Dead 1's about zombies" *...whose gonna tell her?* Man this game is so nostalgic tho. I never actually played RDR2 I only play pc these days and it originally was playstation exclusive so I watched a few other playthroughs on youtube. But this game and Red Dead Revolver I grew up on. RDR2 is an incredible piece of art and really shows what modern games can do, but this game was amazing storytelling for it's time when story in games was not a big thing. As beautiful as RDR2 is I do like the classic western vibe of 1 a lot too I forgot how over the top and vulgar the dialogue in this game was tho maybe I shouldn't have been playing it when I was like 12 lmao. No, Eralia, they didn't just remake it in 2023, they leaked RUMORS of a remaster to hype up the sales and all they did was RE-RELEASE it at current AAA game prices (no remake, remaster or even a new port) just a cash grab by a greedy game complany that puts profits over the need or wants of its entire fanbase! if I didn't love their games so much I should and would boycott the company, but it is what it is...they make the finest games with the best stories, so I'll keep buying and playing them!

John in RDR1 is a lot a lot better written and acted. Very different type of direction of the game too, in RDR2 actors speak more theatrically, but in RDR1 they talk more like real people. Like in that first scene in a cabin with Bonnie, that conversation was so real

I wouln't say "better written", per se... RDR 1 John might be more memorable because he has a ton of "badass" and "quippy" lines, (akin to the more classic spaghetti western protagonists RDR 1 was influenced by), but in reality, he has barely any character development during the game. On the other hand, RDR 2 John is more subdued and not as badass and quick-witted (because he's younger), but he actually has the biggest character arc in that game, even bigger than Arthur's. So, when you say RDR 1 John is a better written character, I disagree. More memorable: RDR 1 John. Best written as an actual character, that has character development and a character arc: RDR 2 John.

@@b.u.l.1734 I mean the quality of writing itself, how distinctive it is. And he is not just always saying badass cowboy stuff, he says a lot of deep things in the game, there's a lot of even philosophycal things he says. It's just in RDR1 he is a beliveable killer, believable outlaw, but in RDR2 they dumbed him down for some reason, characters are laughing at him all the time, even though nothing warranted that in the way he is in RDR1. I know people often say "well thats because he is younger in rdr2", but not really because of that, it's just the direction they took the character into.

@@lepersonnage371 He doesn't say a lot of deep stuff in RDR 1, though. It's mostly very shallow stuff that one might think it's just stuff John might have heard Dutch or Hosea say and didn't quite understand and now he's just parroting them. John calls himself illiterate throughout the game, after all. He was never very smart. Like I said, RDR 1 John is cool, but he's barely a character. If anything, RDR 2 John makes RDR 1 John a FAR more compelling character.

@@b.u.l.1734 illiterate is one thing, dumb is a different one. illiterate he meant in a self depricating way, obviously he is literate since he said that he was told how to read and write by Dutch and he was reading stuff for Abigail since she can't read. Anything can be called shallow, same as Arthur's phrases like "they don't want folk like us no more", who are they and who ever wanted bandits? even Roger Clark himself said once that he didn't understand that phrase. And there is tons of stuff like that. Tons of people still prefer rdr1 John to Arthur, because he is not "barely a character", Maybe you didn't understand some of the motives or writing in the game, maybe you don't have certain movies as a reference of how that kind of character should be written, or idk.

John goes straight to Fort Mercer, sees that Bill has severely outmanned and outgunned him and is inside a heavily protected fort, and yet he decides to reach for his gun, which gets him shot and would have definetly died right then and there if Bonnie didn't randomly appear to save him... yeah, suuureee John's definetly a "genius" and "seasoned" killer, lol. John is dumb as hell in RDR 1 too, my guy, it's part of his charm as a character. The reason he's more memorable in RDR 1 is because they gave him a bunch of "badass cowboy" lines.

Red dead revolver came out before this . This game was about as open world as got at the time it was one of few Western type games available at the time and also one of the few that allowed you to explore around at the time instead of just following a linear path from point to point. Lots of interesting characters with there own little stories.

Man the years haven't been good on ol' Bill. The S tier backstory they gave him in the sequel makes it kinda upsetting to see him devolved into a petty bandit ringleader.
