i prefer sleeping on the floor because it promotes more healthy lifestyle choices in my opinion. Took a month or so to get comfortable, but after 2 years on the floor all my back problems disappeared. That was 10 years ago. Even now I often get compliments on how good my posture is. And you have way less problems with oversleeping on the floor. Unlike a nice comfy bed that you never want to leave. Once you wake up, you don't have to fight to get up. The only downside I have found, you gotta have a bed if you wanna get laid. At least it seems that way here in the united states.

I've been sleeping on the floor for over 45 years now. Never liked the beds. I use a 3 inch firm futon mattress and I sleep like a little baby. Feel rejuvenated in the mornings, my bowel movements are good, my back feels great, I get more room to stretch my limbs as I sleep on the floor. I will never sleep on a bed till the day I die, I feel more connected with nature. Sleeping with head facing towards the east or west also helps to get fresh sleep. I remember once I was on a trip and I slept on a bed and I had sleepless nights for a few days. Then I asked the hotel receptionist to make arrangements for me to sleep on the floor.

I have slept on the floor for a year now. And my lower backpain went away. Knots in my upperback disappears cause my muscles cant be tense to survive the pressure of sleeping on the floor. Sleeping on the floor makes you change positions more often as it is more uncomfortable, so you move more while sleeping as well. I have now started workingfrom the floor as well. It allows me to change postion while working much easier then when sitting on a chair. Chairs and beds are someting I like, but try to avoid as much as possible.

With no change. At first, it hurts. But, it’s getting better. I stopped using a pillow too due to daily headaches. Headaches are gone and I believe if I keep sleeping on the floor on my back it will eventually release the tight muscles. Ive had to start slow sleeping on the floor for 1-2 hours. Now I can stay on the floor half to most of the night. Plus, more exercise by getting up off the floor. I also have a firm mattress. My daughter calls it “The Rock”.

I've tried all the shots etc but what seems to work the most is various stretches that I have found that worked. Including exercise while sitting on the toilet and bending my SI joint up and down. Laying on my abdominal area in bed having my head and legs up behind me then peddling them upwords. Various stretches and movement all through the day really helps with the stiffness in my spine and SI joint. I can't do hard exercises but I can do stretching which really helps. I have an adjustable three height back stretcher, a small and medium chirp wheel along with a foam roller. I find if I do those stretches every day in the morning and evening and use my rollers it helps immensely. I also have a Pilates chair which really helps. I had a teeter hang Up but I injured both my legs and it made it difficult to hang upside down but it never truly helped like a foam roller or a specially a chirp wheel . If you sit a lot or lay in bed a lot then your hamstrings get short and that is one of the problems that causes lower back pain.

When Brad had the back support roller on (at the beginning of the video), he was on his back with his knees up -- is that the correct way to sleep on your back? If I put my legs completely straight, I create that gap; if I put the knees up or a pillow under my knees, my back is flat on the bed surface. Just wondering if knees-up is the correct way to sleep on the back. Sometimes I will start the night with the pillow under the knees, but, during the night, I'll move, kick aside the pillow, and wake with my legs flat. I've read differing views on what is best for the back: some say, side-sleeping; others say back is best...
@nbi42203 жыл бұрын
The micro movement pain that you discuss at the 8:15 mark which Brad elaborates on is *exactly* what is plaguing my back. It all started in November of last year. Prior to that time I had no back issues. I experience an extremely intense spasm of pain whenever my spine twists ever so slightly (well within normal range of motion). This is true for sitting, walking, and laying down. Bending the spine front to back is not an issue, it's just this twisting even if only very slight. As you describe in the video I have to be careful to roll my entire body at the same time when lying in bed - if I lead with my hips or shoulder I'll get that painful spasm. It's only on the right side of my lower back. Neither I nor my primary doctor have been able to figure this out yet. I'm going to get a MRI in a couple of weeks, but am not confident it will yield anything helpful. I'm trying to get educated on this, but have not yet come across good resources. What sort of specialist has the expertise to diagnose this sort of thing? I don't want to go to a surgeon since it's far from clear that surgery is even necessary. Update: The MRI confirmed that I had a herniation and that it is healing. I'm much better now, almost 85% of normal. My improvement has been due to the herniation healing on its own which can take a year and also chiropractic treatment which has been immensely beneficial. I would guess 70% of my pain was from the herniation, 10% from degeneration/stenosis, and 20% due to structural problems identified by the chiropractor. The structural problems can be resolved and the degeneration/stenosis can be minimized with core strengthening so I'm hopeful of getting back to near normal, i.e. without pain or impaired movement.

Wehave a memory foam mattress and I like it but my husband doesn't. He says the memory foam stays on the mattress keeps that same hole and never comes back.

I have herniated and degenerative discs. L2, L3, L4 and L5. I have a $4,000 Tempur Pedic Mattress. Whenever I have serious back pain or injury, my back CRAVES the hard floor. It's as if the body knows what it NEEDS when it's injured.

Never getting memory foam again. Latex foam with quality springs. Anybody have highly recommended adjustable bed for gerd? Using a wedge, but slide down. Can’t sleep on side because of bend and my back hurts the next day. Thanks bob and Brad.

I have reflux problems as well. I have two wedge pillows but I don’t like them either. Besides being uncomfortable I usually end up sleeping on my side. We bought a Tempur-Pedic mattress and adjustable base. Unfortunately though we did not get the split base. My wife does not like it much. Whether or not it’s worth the price we paid is debatable. It is nice though. The thing about innerspring mattresses is, as far as I know, can’t be used on an adjustable base. My advice to you would be to do a search to find what fits your needs and budget best. Hope this helps.

I know this isn't to do with mattresses, but intermittent fasting/not eating after a certain time (e.g. 4pm) has helped with the situation.

Put the head of your bed 6 inches higher, or put your wedge under your mattress so it's 6 inches higher, don't eat 3 hours before bed, cut down grease and sugar. I hope you feel better soon.

I have a pars defect and seems to have flared up/ mild disc bulge after 6 months of truck driving. My 23 years of life never really have a problem with it - I want to try sleeping on the floor tho, with a light yoga matt or something; what do you recommend/ think?

I can't stand to be on the floor, it's too hard. I bought a Winkbed in soft. It's great, comforts all the pressure points.

What's your opinion on the purple mattress. I had memory foam mattress years ago and I hated it, I move and turn a lot in bed, with memory foam I stuck in one position and it was very hot!

Try resting on the floor first. Dont just sleep a whole night on the floor because it works for some but for me longer than an hour is killer on the floor......

How can sleeping longer in bed be bad for your back? I didn't understand your point.
@longfield00233 жыл бұрын
Because your spine (& vertebra?) absorbs fluid when you are lying down to get nutrients. And if you stay lying down too long it can keep getting more fluids and get too much. And if you walk around a bit when you wake up it can help to start dissipating that and letting the spine have a break.
