i love the variety day in the life video, really cool to see the horse he seems really sweet! it's sometimes necessary to explain a bit about what's going on, not everyone has that experience (e.g. burn pile, indoor wood burner, forest management). I'm glad you're taking it from an educational perspective and explaining things rather than "damn those city idiots". good on you. i very much am jealous you have all of that right in your backyard i'm looking forward to your new videos, cheers from the concrete jungles of downtown ottawa :)

Always enjoy your videos! I grew up on a farm in mid Michigan. I learned to ride at the age of three. My dad bought me a Welsh pony. Now I live in the city, I was in a serious car accident twenty years ago which required much physical therapy & numerous surgeries to walk again. My husband had enquired at several stables, they always told him I was a risk. Luckily when visiting my brother in the U.P. his friends had a quarter horse they let me ride. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m a happy wench now. LoL Stay blessed! ❣️🖖🏻

I'm cheering you on Careena. You've been ready to jump to a new level for quite some time now. I think this spark is going to catch. I just want to share a few thoughts for your show. You would not remember but there was once a show called the Red Fisher Show. The guy had built his own set in his backyard and called it the "Scuttle Butt Lodge". There he would tell his fishing stories while showing footage of his trips. Maybe the horse could be a special guest on your set.

I don't burn softwoods, but I know many that do early or late in the season when you don't need a lot of heat. I know there are arguments and opinions of all sorts about doing that, but what I do know for a fact is that as long as wood is dry... it does not leave any cresote. My family has many generations of loggers, and I've learned a lot from them. And that is something that I felt the same as you, until someone proved me wrong. In the Northwest, they have very little hardwood available and they cut lots of spruce and pine, but of course they take the time to let it dry. before burning it for heat. Anyway, looks like you have a great spot to "play outdoors" and gather wood that might be needed as well. Thanks for sharing!

Awesome Video, loved the horse beautiful animal. Hopefully we will see more of him. Great Quad ride , I miss my quad sold it after I bough a SXS because I wasn't using it but watching you going for a ride wants me want to go. Yeah if they want to burn that scrap in their stoves then they never burned wood LOL. Unfortunately where I grew up we had to use some softwoods but we had to cut it a year or two earlier and dry it well and chimneys had to be cleaned often, you're 100% correct hardwoods is the way to go if available. But under no circumstance would anyone want to burn what you were burning off there LOL.

Recommend the book hidden life of trees by Peter Wallenberg Everything natural takes care of itself Thanks for sharing
@careenaalexis10 ай бұрын
Around here nature regenerates by fire, and we don’t want a fire burning down our house anytime soon, so forest management all around and leaving a firebreak between our forest and our house is necessary.
@Levitus110 ай бұрын
Many moons ago I lived in Louisiana and it was very common to clear cut your acreage because trees grew very fast and the local paper mill bought and replanted with you. I took a job in California and would tell that story and the Californians were aghast and told me we were damaging the planet.
@careenaalexis10 ай бұрын
Makes sense. Around here a forest fire is most likely to clear cut for you and do that same thing, almost came to our area last year and with little snow to melt and penetrate the ground this year we are preparing for another one just in case, creating more space between our house and the forest, and removing any dry dead standing trees

That is a myth Spruce, fir etc can be burnt indoors and if properly seasoned won’t create any additional creosote over any other woods. With your access to hardwoods don’t blame you for burning more of that but fir, spruce etc is fine to burn too
@careenaalexis10 ай бұрын
Yes it’s fine to burn if properly seasoned, but not nearly sufficient enough considering we have an amazing supply of hardwoods, and doesn’t compare to the heat output and efficiency of hardwood for sure. Softwoods are definitely all that some have at their disposal, but they definitely clean the chimney more often I’ve been told.
@driftlessareadrone533710 ай бұрын
Sad that you have to explain yourself to people about burning cardboard/paper or a bush pile but thats the times we’re in. Most of them people wouldn’t know the different characteristics between species of wood or that paper/cardboard is a wood product yet they still have a negative comment. Keep on keeping on! 👍

Burning piles are the same here in Manitoba too. My grandpa has his old farm house land and would always make a burn pile of old wood and grass clippings. My sister lives there now and they do the same. Only people that really have restrictions on when to burn things are farmers because of how much stuff they burn. Anyone giving you shit has probably never owned a rural property.

Check out permaculture. Food forest for the win. Plant some trees that make stuff you can eat in the spaces left by the microburst. Also, don't let the burns from judgy folks get you down. You know your forests and fire! Love this video. I always learn a lot from you and am inspired by the way you choose to live your life. Also, it doesn't hurt that I've loved horses all my life. Horse manure can be a good fertilizer. If you were thinking of a garden, it might be a good idea (excuse) to get a horse or three. Horses are like potato chips. You can never have just one.
