if your classes start late on most days like mine - the most effective way of getting things done (in my case at least) is to sleep/wake up early. You will be 10x more productive! When I come back after my college classes I'm usually dead tired and this prevents me from learning new concepts as well as I could - so I use that time for assignments, chores, reading - less heavy stuff basically. I just feel energised and ready to do anything in the morning! Plus it's always quieter--- and so beautiful. PS - I'm not one of those people who's always been a morning person - it took a lot of hard work. I used to sleep/wake up late and just feel drowsy throughout the day, and fall sick more often - so I tried to make a change, and it worked wonderfully! Try it :))

1. engage in class, eliminate distractions, sit in front, show up 2. take notes physically and rephrase, especially in a way your brain processes the information, be organised with the notes 3. ask questions clarify understanding, good students understand material as they are being taught, concepts are built on so ask questions to get that foundation right don’t ask for the sake of it to prove you’re listening 4. do your homework right don’t do mindless repetition of stuff you are already good at, you have limited time and capacity, don’t waste it and prioritise the weaker stuff to make it strong still do your homework tho 5. time management personalised recommend: experiment what successful people do, use google calendar to schedule stuff discipline is useful in getting what you have to done so that you can do what you wanna do 6. learn how to study better don’t just jump in! his method: taken engaged physical notes that is organised well create a crypt sheet - summary, condensed forced to recall understanding use feynman method - explain everything in the course stop after the cheat sheet 7. take care of yourself! sleep, a superpower hydration nutrition exercise social life

I’m going into twelfth grade of high school this year in Ontario. In eleventh grade in the second semester I was very miserable. I never hated school that much and my grades were worse than ever (they weren’t bad, just not what I know I can get). I realize now that during last year I lost my love of learning. I would sit in class and not even listen to the teacher talk. I only did homework if it was due or if my teachers were to check (which was never so I never did it). I didn’t even study for exams. My grades weren’t going down that much so I was never really motivated to start doing the right things again. I didn’t feel fulfilled and it felt like everything I was doing was meaningless and not what I wanted to be doing. I think I’m beginning to find the love again. Hopefully this year will go better!
@benmillard5 жыл бұрын
The Bird Caller You got this! Went through a similar thing when I was in high school (in Ontario). I lost my passion for school and although my grades didn’t really slip, school became a nuisance in my life. My only advice would be to stick with it and follow some of the steps John outlines in this video. When I got my life outside school together and started learning because I wanted to (reading, starting my own business, etc.) I was able to to recognize the value that learning in school has and it made it a lot easier to get my school life together. Now I’m going into second year in Uni and everything’s going fine actually, I can’t wait to go back! Just stick with it and believe that everything will work out-it’s all about mindset 💪🏻

Hey, I am french and I didn't practice my english for a complete year (maybe u already can see it through my writting skills...) I failed my last school year but I do learned on my own capacities and I want to be a better student for the current year. Despite my weakness in english, your accent is really "easy" (I don't really know what to say) to understand if I focus. After the first five minutes I managed to understand 95% of what u're saying. And tbh, It's really helpful for student like me : never organized, bad time management, doing a lot of exercices on the same point... Thx a lot John. Don't judge my english pls :'( (I swear to practice)

Ok so ever since I was a child I was praised for learning quickly and getting top grades, this only worked for until grade 9. When I hit high school it really hit me, I could no longer just rely on my “raw intelligence”, I had to actually study, do assignments that were worth a huge amount and I didn’t know a fig about how to do that. I didn’t know how to STUDY. I want you guys to learn from this failure of mine, no matter how smart you are, remember to study and actually work hard. I got my shit together only in the beginning of grade 12. A bit late but not too late. Please learn from this, to succeed in this system industriousness is necessary.
