I homeschooled our daughter through the third grade. I taught her Bible, how to read, how to write and basic math. These are the primary skills they need. When I look at what kind of mother I have been, I have at least taught her these skills. Keep up the great work Erin and Chad. You have raised some very good children who are loving. Looking forward to see the new little man in your family. ❤

I studied Abeka curriculum at a Christian school from 5th-12th grades. I later taught Abeka curriculum to 3rd & 4th graders while my son was also taught from the same curriculum kindergarten-4th grade. I think it is an amazing foundation! I agree completely that it is not necessary to do every single activity provided but can be personalized. Sounds like you are doing a wonderful job educating your kiddos.

I am going into 11th grade and did Abeka from grade 7-8. Then from 9th- now I have done some Abeka, some Master Books and I have done Gather round. My sister is in 9th grade and does the notgrass history. I do agree Abeka videos are very long. I do love their Bible though so thanks for sharing!

Love ABEKA Phonics....pairs well with the activities and songs from Sing, Spell, and Write. Love ABEKA Arithmetic through 5th grade...in sixth grade I switched my girls to Saxon Math 7/6 and they were able to enter that curriculum seamlessly, skip Pre-Algebra and go right into High School. I did use an alternative Geometry however. Was eclectic with History and used Apologia Science in middle school throughout H.S. Notgrass History is really greatly! My girls have both been to college and both have done great. Relax Mamas. Be diligent and Trust the Lord with your children. He is so faithful!!!

We love abeka for the younger years as well!! They have such a solid phonics program. In 3rd grade, we move on to saxon with Nicole the math lady and TGATB for language. As for math facts, writing them 3x per day does the trick! My husband is amazing at math, and he said it is all thanks to his 3rd grade teacher who made them write their multiplication tables over and over.

We have gone back and forth with Saxon over the last several years and I have also found that we prefer to start it in 3rd grade (using Intermediate 3 and then moving onto 5/4). However, we are using My Math Assistant instead of Nicole The Math Lady at this point. I only wish that I loved all of the Saxon Math levels because we are part of a cottage school that has chosen Saxon, but unfortunately, Saxon 1 and 2 just aren't our favorites. Instead, we have fallen completely in love with Math With Confidence for those early grades and I have been using MWC as our primary math for my first grader and treating the workbook pages from Saxon 1 that she has to complete as more of a supplement, especially since she can fly through a lesson in about 2 minutes or less.

My favorite homeschool curriculum so far in IEW Fix It Grammar! When my 8 year old started working on it, she really loved how simple and easy it was to pick up and learn. It’s one page a day, but my daughter likes to do more. The very simplified way everything is organized and taught, puts it at the top of my list for teaching the parts of speech.

Thank you for sharing how you organize your day! I had an idea in my head that we needed to organize our day into blocks but without actually sticking to a specific time table and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what that would look like until I saw your school routine. It was the exact visual layout that I needed and had been praying for! And Thank you for sharing Abeka with us too. We have tried several different things over the last few years before landing on Memoria Press, Saxon & Math With Confidence and they have been fantastic for our family, but I've always kept Abeka in the back of my head. I never thought to look at just using their Bible class though, I'm going to have to check it out now!

Thank you for this video. It is very encouraging. My husband and his 8 siblings were all homeschooled with Abeka. We are now homeschooling our kids and have been using TGTB for core subject's so far because of affordability but plan on switching to Abeka this year. I know it is quality school but also a little overwhelmed with the amount of different books for each subject with a 2 month old in my home. 😆 Praying for the energy and peace to be able to not only afford but get through it smoothly this next year! I have a very strong willed 5 yo boy going into 1st grade this year. 😂 BTW, thanks for you're amazing shop! I use the ABC cards for our memory verses right now and got my husband the man cards for Father's day which he has enjoyed sharing with our kids so much he got them for everyone in his guys group he meets with twice a month! We love the Good and the Beautiful! They have such a strong language arts curriculum. Also, people like to say it’s a “Mormon based” curriculum. They’ve done multiple videos acknowledging this claim and how they use people of many different Christian denominations to create the curriculum and check it to ensure that it’s a non denominational Christian curriculum and nothing more. So don’t let that scare you away because it’s affordable and amazing!

I absolutely love seeing how enthused you are about home-schooling your children! My daughter home schooled the oldest 2 until the 8th grade, numbers #3 & #4 came along within 20 months, and they both had health issues, so that is why the oldest 2 started public school. The teachers complimented her so much because the 2 big boys were far above their grade average. I love watching your videos here on KZbin, they are very inspiring so from this Grandma, keep up the fantastic job you are doing. I really loved seeing that you are including cursive writing. I had my first two children at the ages of 18 & 20. I had a surprise miracle baby at the age of 30 after having cancer twice and by the time he went into school they had stopped teaching cursive writing. I taught him that at home until the age of 17. To this day (he is now 31) and he gets compliments all the time about his writing. I hope God continues to bless you & your family in every way!

I agree, their Bible is awesome. My boys actually always loved their history teachers with ABEKA and my daughter enjoyed the English teachers..I one on one taught until 7th grade and then we did the Video program 7-12. I would recommend you give their history another chance in highschool.

@@kanitaray164 sure, my boys are now both in their 20's. So it has been a few years and I know some things have changed. We loved My Father's World for both boys from elementary- high school. I used Abeka language arts for both in elementary. Saxon math for both through 3rd grade. My oldest continued with Saxon for all of his math. It did not work for my youngest and he used Teaching Textbooks and it was a great find. Science we also used Apologia- but I would check into the current edition as a friend said she didn't like it as well as earlier ones. We used the spelling power book for spelling lists, but I didn't teach it exactly like they said. I hope this helps, there is so much more out there for options now. We had a season of life where we needed to slow down and take a relaxed approach to our homeschool and we found Masterbooks to be the perfect fit. I was able to have the kids come to my bed (during a rough patch in my last pregnancy) and we could read through the lessons and do the work right there. We even used My Story 1 with my 2nd, K and Pre-K kids all together and it was wonderful. After that school year we did end up deciding that we wanted a more traditional classical program so we ended up moving on to Memoria Press, Saxon and Math With Confidence which have all been fantastic for us. I am hoping to add Living Art Lessons this year and have had my eye on Where Faith Grows ever since it came out. I thought it looked like it was very well done.

Love A Beka for phonics. Mom of nine and have been homeschooling for 18 years. We gravitated towards a gentle Charlotte Mason focus on learning, heavy literature and a self-propelled education. I always tell my kiddos that I won’t be able to teach them everything, but they know our large, classical family library well and can find answers to questions/research quickly and efficiently. After 5 kiddos, my philosophy became very self-propelled as far as learning and my kiddos love it! Many blessings Paine family! You’re doing a great job!!

yeah, just don’t use Bob Jones for history because multiple of their history curriculums claim that slaves for the most part we’re happy being enslaved which is a bold face lie

We used ABEKA to homeschool our 3 kids. They’re all grown now but I am so happy we used it. Loved it.

I start my little ones with Abeka too and then switch to The Good and The Beautiful for elementary and then piece together curriculum based on the child for the older elementary! This is our 10th year homeschooling I still love learning and hearing from other homeschool mamas!

My 4 girls love The Good and the Beautiful LA and math, and Notgrass History! :) Abeka was great for my older girls for a year (I used it myself when homeschooled for a few years - BJU as well), but we've since switched to IEW and other curriculum for language arts/grammar. Also, the Musical Multiplication helped all 4 of my girls learn their times tables - definitely worth the money! Have you heard of Gather Round Homeschool? If you like teaching certain subjects together as a family, you might be interested in researching their unit studies! They're also Christian, and we've enjoyed their units over the years. :)

My kids are all doing Notgrass history this year. My youngest are doing the Star Spangled Story too. Something you need to try when they are a little older is the Mystery of History Books. It’s a 4 year curriculum. It goes from creation to present day. Hands down the BEST history curriculum I’ve ever used! I looked forward to our history lessons right along with the kids lol! I’ve also used the Good and the beautiful multiplication songs. In addition to the songs I bought blank multiplication charts off amazon and had her listen to the songs and fill in the chart as she listened to the songs. It really helped her learn them.

Hi Erin and Chad! Love y’all’s videos! I was homeschooled with Abeka and really liked it, but I do agree it is a lot of screen time. Have y’all ever heard of a curriculum called “My Fathers World”? Good concept, and I think it has been great for larger families as they grow ❤ just a thought! Best wishes on y’all’s upcoming school year

Hi Erin! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! Seeing the way other families homeschool is so helpful. I had one idea for a vlog if you would consider it. Could you share if you have a behavior chart or behavior management system you follow? Any books you recommend on how to help children learn obedience and also foster joy in doing the right thing? I just thought it would be so helpful to hear what you & Chad have found worked well for your family. 🙂

I discovered Notgrass History about 8 years ago & I love it! We’ve been using it ever since. I started when my oldest was in 6th grade, if I’m not mistaken, & used as group history for her & my 3rd grade son.

All of my home school Mom friends really honed in on each individual child once they were in grade 5/6ish to figure out their strengths, so by the time they were 14 or so, if they excelled or were more interested in one thing or another, then they registered them in high school for those particular subjects. Even P.E. for those kids more athletically active. It was a perfect balance. Some kids WANT more history, or chemistry, or Biology. We're raising future doctors, nurses, engineers, and yes, teachers. Its important to be progressive as they get older and make sure theyre prepared acedemically in case they ARE gifted and ask about a particular college going into a specific profession!

So true! Although, I would disagree that public school courses are at all academically superior to the home school courses available today. Or that they are remotely necessary to prepare students academically for any professional career path. Homeschoolers are not limited in their career choices in any way. Ironically, it was the public school system that was created specifically as a way to train children for the sole purpose of being factory workers. By controlling and limiting what children were taught, they could limit their opportunities, ensuring that wealthy factory owners would have access to a steady stream of cheap labor. So if anything, I would think that homeschooling offers substantially more time and opportunity to focus on developing talents and taking specialized classes.

@athomewiththedavises3457 hmmm...you must be talking about your country then because that is SO not the case where my kids learnt here in Western Canada. My daughter is now an ER Nurse and my son is a technical support analyst for the govt. Their school really prepared them for university. They were honour students and top musicians in their years there.
