Great vacuum cleaner. We had one for over 30 years. Never missed a beat unlike some modern rubbish. Built like a tank. Only broke when my mum hoovered up chunky builders’ rubble. You can still get the bags. If you find one, get it.

One of the nice things about the Style C bags in the US is that the premiered in 1953 and since the patents ran out decades ago, genuine bags cost about a dollar a bag and there are generic bags available in a 25 count for $14.00.

Oh, your deluxe Z345 brings back memories - not with unmixed delight for me, mind you - of my childhood growing up with a very similar vacuum. Oh the chores I had to do with it, dusting everywhere, as this was a breakthrough from those uprights to a cylinder model, so no longer confined to cleaning floors. The Z317 was a bright orange colour, very similar to your brownie so many aspects, including the sweet and mellow tone the motor made. It was so well made that when it was purchased circa 1981, it lasted right through to 2013, when my mum finally replaced it with a Miele with HEPA filter as she had allergy problems and the Elux would spew out so much dust it wasn't funny anymore. While the Elux filtration might have left something to be desired, I must say it really lasted, and was in good working condition when it was dropped off at a charity shop - I hope Councillor Mrs Nugent was there to price it and approve of it as it had "no frills or fripperies, just living plainly!". PS: Our Z317 had an extra bonus tool included, a spray bottle that used the "blowing" function of the machine. You could fill the bottle with fluid (paint?) and use it as a sprayer (!). It also had an extra small aperture tool with a round end, similar to the crevice brush, which was supposed to help you blow up an air-mattress or party balloons. Them were the times!

The silver filter lid at the top kind of reminds me of the old heaters that people use to have in their living rooms back in the day. It looks good though. I like it.

We had a 1973 Kirby, a 1975 Electrolux Super J downstairs and a 1949 Electrolux Model 30 XXX upstairs where we had only floors. I still have the Kirby, my sister still has the Model 30 though it’s hardly used, and my brother still has the Super J. My sister also has an Electrolux Discovery II upright from 1986. None of these machines has ever required more than a maintenance service every fifteen years. They are some of the most durable machines of any kind made in the world.

Wow, what a stunning looking vacuum with amazing attention to detail/design. The warm glow of that neon light makes it look alive and the sound of that silky smooth motor all finished off in 1970s classic brown, no other decade made browns quite like this. Electrolux should bring out a retro range with hidden modern tech. Great review.

My mum had this vacuum in the 70s, it lasted 12 years and was fixed a few times by my dad before it died completely. If I remember right you could buy a reusable cloth bag for it, which is what my mum used when she could no longer buy the paper bags.

I loved the old Electrolux's. Grew up with them in our house. I recently discovered the Lux's are still sold in Australia under the Sauber brand. Apparently, the Lux brand had to be renamed for sale locally. I have purchased one and very happy, I had a Miele S7 before, but the Sauber is 100 times better
@ibaisaic5 жыл бұрын
I don’t think this generation of Electrolux has any connection with the Lux brand sold today, but I could be wrong. We no longer have the Electrolux brand in the UK, at least in floorcare. Electrolux branded cleaners sold in Europe come under the AEG brand here.
@fredzbrother12 жыл бұрын
@@ibaisaic Although Lux and Electrolux are not legally connected anymore, they still maintain a relationship up to this day. In 1998, Electrolux sold the Lux company to Reinhard von der Becke, but Electrolux continued manufacturing Lux Branded Vacuum Cleaners in Sweden for Lux. For example, the Lux D790 or Lux 1 Royal. However, by 2010, they stopped doing this once the Lux Intelligence model launched. That said, Electrolux still continues to produce the dust bags & filters today for Lux. In terms of new vacuum cleaners being sold today, Lux has certainly maintained the quality that was present in the old Electrolux vacuums in the 70's, for example, the Lux S115. On the other hand, Electrolux also sells vacuum cleaners today, but at a lower quality and lower price-point than Lux.

Awesome acquisition--congratulations! From vacuumland.org: The Z345 was a cleaner sold on the mainstream market and it ran from 1975 until somewhere around 1983. I am not sure of the final date but what I do know is that it was an exclusive model at the very end and those last models came with a moulded 13amp plug. Electrolux did the same with the 502S too, they made the last models exclusive to Comet. The 325 was exclusive but I don't know to which store. The only difference between the 325 and 345 was that most (but not all) 345 cleaners had numbers printed to the bag-full dial, whereas the 325 had stripes, like the 330 and early 345 did. Also the 325 had an all-round trim around the middle of the cleaner, and as I said before, there was a capped-off socket for a PN, which on UK models would not have been connected up inside. I am not sure whether the 325 came with it's own floor tools as seen in the rest of Europe, or whether it had the same automatic tool like on the 310/330/345. While the Z345 didnt have the outlet for the power head the model Z245 (exact same machine made under the Dometic name) did have the outlet and and optional power head. Happy Electroluxing!

No, it controls the sensitivity of the auto shut off, there was a later model that had a boost button and a power slider on the and of the machine, but the 345 doesn't have any sort of electronic suction control.

I agree with you, Roger. I'd be a bit ticked off too with that seller. You know, I have sold vacuums in the past, and before I ship them, I give them a good cleaning and I NEVER ship the vacuum with a dirty bag inside! It infuriates me how people can do that. I'd be embarrassed to do something like that. I remember that upright Electrolux you featured a while back. It was reasonably nice on the outside, but underneath it was clogged with dirt, spider nests etc. HOW?? How do people have the audacity to ship something in that condition!

Hello, I am in Brazil and here at home we have a vacuum cleaner very similar to that one. The brand is the same. Although we do not know each other, this message will be objective to stay small. There we go. Well, I would like to ask you for help, please. Could you open the vacuum cleaner back part to show me in some details how retraction system of the power cable is connected together with the button that starts the engine? If you want and feel insecure in doing so, I can help you in the process of opening/closing this part and guiding you to what you will find inside. Thank you!

Why wouldn't it be right to complain if the description isn't accurate? If they say it has its original box, never used, all attachments included, manual included etc you absolutely should. At best it was a mistake (they forgot to include something and can send it separately) or at worst, they attempted to scam you.

It was most likely ignorance rather than an attempt to scam. The seller probably doesn’t realise the importance of condition and presence of original parts to a collector. If it was a deliberate attempt to deceive surely they would have removed the bag of dirt and trimmed the wires on the cable. They may even have thrown the original box away, thinking it was too tatty. However, ignorance is not a defence and you are quite right to make a claim. Yesterday I was looking at a handbag on eBay which was advertised as BNWT, when I scrolled down for the full description it said “Worn twice.” !!!
@ibaisaic5 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they tried to scam me as sending something not as described will normally result in a complaint against the seller. It wouldn’t have hurt for the seller to check the bag or at least dust it before posting though. I did get some money back after complaining and I was ultimately pleased with it after I had cleaned it up, so I didn’t leave the seller negative feedback.
