Pulled the trigger on this steelbook box set today and man... The first movie looked gorgeous on 4k. It breathed new life into this film and I can't wait to watch the next two movies.

Close ups being soft just come down to the older lenses they were using, and on film the 1st ac does all the focus without a monitor. So it could just be a couple soft shots, they had no way of knowing if it was completely in focus until they were in post. Now we have focus monitors, light rangers, cinetape. Its much easier these days to keep stuff in focus.

I was talking to the 1st ac from the child's play remake and he said he noticed a couple shots that were soft in the theatre, even with modern technological aids it still happens. General public will say "how come the quality sucks in this shot" hahaha

I've always noticed that to be sorta common in movies from the 80's in particular, for some strange reason. The best theory I've ever come up with why that is even in big budget releases is they did a lot less movies with anamorphic lenses than in the 60's and especially 70's, which is something else I noticed.

@@SidNightWalker anamorphics still will be sharp of the focus puller is on point. But there's a whole other bunch of reasons, like filters. There is a bunch of filters that DPs like to use these days that soften the image, everyone is trying to make the glass look older cause everything is too sharp and not artistic enough for some DPs. However I work at panavision and sabrina used our "detuned" anamorphics which are soft all the way around the image except for the middle. If the shot is soft its an artistic choice or the focus puller messed it up.

@@nigeljoycey5644 very interesting, I've always found it fascinating all the trickery involved to actually film something on analog cameras and have it look good. Of course with the old Panavision systems you had to take an hour to set everything up and ect. so if you screwed something up sometimes you just had to go with it or risk losing an entire days work. Some movies have had entire scenes cut from them because of filming issues here and there.

I couldn’t help but giggle when he talks how much he can see the difference on 4K for a movie that was shot on film. The whole HD era really seems to have caused confusion with all sorts of transfers. I mean like Sam sung TVs, naturally brighter colors will give an appearance of popping sharpness. However that don’t necessarily mean it’s has the sharpest contrast. Personally I gotta believe if you not watching through film, the closest transfer would LD. Unfortunately today not much support to play LD on high def TVs.

The Back To The Future looks great on 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc. Good transfers for picture and audio and good extras too. The Blu-Ray Disc Set had a ton of DNR issues as far as the picture goes but thank goodness this new 4K Remaster is nice and has a great picture for all 3 films with little to no DNR issues. All in all a great set.

The first movie suffered the most by having to go through reshoots because of the Eric Stoltz situation. In 4K you can really see which scenes were shot first because of the colors & the grain vs which scenes were redone with different timing. I agree that II & III look the best but I enjoyed watching the trilogy, the first BTTF is my favorite movie of all time. I do have a Sony Bravia and had to turn up the color on my TV from 50 to 75 to get the full effect. Just my thoughts, thank you for what you do.

Watched the first 4k disc last night. They did a really good job with these. Awesome awesome Atmos/surround mix. I'd put this near the top of all movies I've seen so far in surround sound effects.

Peter jackson is going to be raking in millions of dollars in worldwide sales of the lord of the rings trilogy and the hobbit trilogy on 4k this december..and this time next year when he releases them in a new remastered editions on blu ray..fall/spring worldwide

Lord of the Rings 4k is a disappointment. It's a 2K upscale to 4K. That wouldn't be so bad but they DNRed each movie because . . . It's 4K roulette! Place your bets! Some are winners, some are losers! The best version of the series is the Extended edition set only in 1080p but at least they don't have DNR.

Great Scott. The time has finally come: Back to the Future on 4k Blu-ray. I've been waiting for such a long time for this release. Now I'll still have to wait for my set to arrive. I ordered the Amazon Exclusive 4k set with Hoverboard. However, as I'm from Europe it'll take about two weeks for it to arrive.

I got the german version of the 4k set. In all three movies the atmos track in german is faulty, multiple scenes where people are speaking (mouths move) but no voice to be heard. And in my set the first movie gives errors in one player and on xbox one x it skips in 4 scenes. Probably defective, many people reporting the same errors already reported to uphe as well. So be sure to check your movies by actually watching them to know if there are errors as well, could be not only the german version is affected.

I got the on blu-ray 3 pack when it first came out. That was good enough for me. I laughed at some of the bad set ups and especially the makeup. You can see the lines from both make up to take "old" person skin.

Just got my steelbook set. Wish box was steel-like too. All look and sound great. I'd say 4k/HDR quality improves a bit with each film. #1 looks very good always but over half the film approx looks really really good.

Excited beyond heck to get mine although I'll be waiting a month as postage to Oz is going to be slow and I wanted that Hoverboard no matter what. The original is one of the most well constructed films ever made and I'm so glad it was the first film I ever saw. Also I want to say you run a great channel here and I especially appreciate there being no spoilers in any reviews. I'm only just now starting to watch all the great and classic films and your reviews have been incredibly helpful in deciding which version of a film to get without any risk of said film being spoiled. I recently purchased my first 4k player and started to purchase a few movies in 4k, I I bought the back to the future Trilogy 4k set which also brings the Blu-ray versions of the movies and was very disappointed i couldn't see a difference in picture quality between the 4k and the Blu-ray, but the Blu-ray version was brighter and the colors were more vivid over all it had a more enjoyable picture to look at and the other thing that caught my eye was that the 4k version of back to the future 1 was that the audio was a little bit off I could see peoples mouth move about half a second before you hear the audio. not sure if anybody has had these issues or is there a way to fix them?

Do you need blu Ray's that say dolby atmos on them to get Dolby atmos I've never watched any off the back to the future films thinking off getting blu ray maybe just part one for now as I'm not sure what there like and i dont have atmos or a 4k setup as off yet still need to upgrade to atmos and get a 4k player

Unless they come up with a technology to go back in time and reshoot the movie with a modern high end 4k camera then no, it's not too likely. 4K is essentially an IMAX presentation, which is the primary reason why I was ever sold on 4k.

I just picked up this set on a sale. The worst thing about the old Blu-ray set is that heinous packaging. The plastic clips broke off the first time I tried taking the disc out. I'm surprised the discs didn't break because of how you had to take the discs out. At least the 4K set doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart the moment you you took it out of the shrink.
