The goal today was to get through all the Red Oak that I have bucked up and all that I brought back from my neighbor in previous videos. Wanted to get it all split open to start the seasoning process hoping some of it may be ready by end of next year.
Enjoy Wood Hounds.
Be sure to check out the Back 40 Wood Hound website - New Merch now available!

Also check out the Back 40 Amazon store for all kinds of gear that I use and/or would recommend to any Wood Hound.

Thank you for all your support, it is greatly appreciated.

This video appeared in my recommended feed. I normally do not like these KZbin log splitting videos because they use perfect size, completely dry and knot free logs. But this showed a honest, real world video with plenty of twisted knots and a wide variety of diameters, just like I have to split. Thank you for keeping it real.

Ok. Now im convinced that splitter would be worth the money. Ive got piles of wood around here that are gonna be hard to split with the one ive got. But that darn thing would laugh at them. Nice splitter!

I have the Wolfe Ridge Pro 28 (not Pro 28C). Quite a bit cheaper than the Pro 28C. It works well for me; I am a homeowner and not a commercial guy. I just split 10 full cords of mixed hardwoods - maple, white oak, red oak, hickory, American elm, false elm - and the splitter handled it all. I had to take the 4 way off for the American elm because it was just too stringy. My hour meter shows 26.1 hours and I never had to stop because I was too tired to go on (and I am 68 years old). The Pro 28 replaces a 27 ton DR splitter and I am amazed at the improvement in time and energy.

LOVED seeing you stick that moisture meter on that split piece. So many people claim wood is 'seasoned' because the tree is dead, or they cut it in rounds 6 months ago. NOPE. Until it's split and allowed to air out 6 months to a year, it isn't close to the 20% range it needs to be.

Amazing has her boots on and you guys rock n rolled once again. Schieb is gonna have some shirt orders once he's done with his service. I like to split the oak thin to get a little extra drying. Maybe for a test you could take a small piece and a big piece of the same oak log and let them set a few months and see the moisture meter difference. As always, SS BC HF!

I noticed early on that Amada had her hand on the front side of the log and her other hand on the ram lever. This is a very dangerous habit and your hand should never be between the log and the wedge. Later on, when you started splitting, I noticed that she must have learned that from you, because you do it as well. It's easy to say that you would never engage the ram while your hand was there, but accidents happen and you trip on she trips into you and now you hand is stuck and the ram is moving. I know it's a reach to think that might happen, but it only takes once to lose a hand or some fingers. If you must put your hand in that area, make sure to remove your other hand from the lever. Other than that, great video and it's cool that you got all of that done. I agree with you on Scheib. I don't know how he picks up some of the stuff he does. How about you and him get in the ring for a wrestling match? How bad could it hurt?

Early on, I got myself into the habit of not handling the rounds by the ends if at all possible. One false move and all that. I find tha a pair of those grippy rubberized gloves is just the ticket. Love the videos. Stay safe.

That splitter get a lot of work done. Even better with a second person to keep feeding it. It does take a lot of time to season oak. Even when it looks dry it can still have too much moisture in it. Looks can be deceiving. Have a good day.
