When fishing for Large browns in CO and WY they swipe at it to knock the prey out so after you get a hit, don’t touch your reel just let it dead drift and you’ll pick up more fish with steamers and lures. And we have a primitive ranch on the North Platte River is WY where my dad is building his retirement home. I live in Boulder CO and my dads CO house is further south but located 20 mins from 2 gold medal fisheries. I’m currently at an inpatient rehab place bc my dog took my legs out and broke my hip. It’ll be awhile until I can get back out again but if you’d like to plan something for next year let me know bro.

Very good tip! I always have trouble getting them on the hook after feeling the hit. Knowing this info I now know why and will let them sit and take a while longer and see if that works.

You know fishing is in your blood when you have fought and landed monster sized fish (aka sturgeon, tuna, salmon, etc) and still get super excited over a two foot long brown trout. Jordan is the man!
@Mcpcwby676 ай бұрын
Jordan, gorgeous lake!! Colorado native here. If you don’t have room to actually use a fly rod, use your spinning reel with a clear water bobber, barrel swivel, 8-10 mono leader, with a woolly bugger, black, grey, or olive, or a pistol Pete ugly number 10. Cast straight overhead and the bobber will lead your fly without snagging, then stop your line just short of touching water, and that’ll shoot your fly past the bobber. Slow retrieve, occasional pop and pause. You’ll catch them all day. I can explain or demonstrate. We fish the high lakes a lot. Fish on brother!!

I went to a Oregon reservoir last week and tried everything under the sun with a traditional spinning rod to catch some trout with no luck, went and grabbed the three weight fly rod and black foam body ant and fish on within 5min and about every third cast after that, but what a grind!!! Love it!!

my favorite way to fish the inlines are cast downstream and work em up. Allows the current to spin the blade while u slowly reel in leaving it in the strike zone longer. Hooked many a fish doing it that way and way less snags.

I live in Colorado, but I’ve never fished a mountain lake like that, thanks for sharing that experience. If you come back to Colorado, you should plan to hit 11 mile, spinney reservoir, or antero reservoir, all are known for huge trout, spinney and 11 mile have massive pike as well. I could put you on the huge pike and trout for sure if you return, hmu any time.

I just moved to CO., in the mountains, but so far haven't been anywhere to fish but the lake in town. Which happens to be pretty good fishing, so I'm not complaining. No, that's a common urban legend. "The Shining" was filmed almost entirely on soundstages at EMI Elstree studios in Borehamwood, England. The Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood in Oregon was used for the exterior shots of the hotel.

Hint learn to use a 5 or 7 GOLD and Black floating RAPALA twitched just under the surface. I know from experiace where you're fishing that is the best lure to use. By the way that section is flies and lures only. Everywhere I have ever fished the Rapala it will catch ALL species of fish.
@flynbrynb52802 ай бұрын
Woaha that steel head jigging is a bit erratic for that lake . A steady slow retrieve just enough to make that master wobble with a snap now and again works best in that lake.

Wow two 24 inch browns on the same day impressive video man.
Walking and casting upstream works better for trout especially because they are less likely to see you (causing them to spook) plus it’s easier for them to turn and chase a lure down stream rather than having to swim against the current 👍

I know exactly where you are. I fished that lake and camped out there. Huge trout lives there. My personal best trout. The water was so crisp and perfect. I used my black and gold panther Martin and on my fly rod I used a white and black Woolley bugger. If you get a trout with a zebra midge he broke me off there. Fly fishing is the most popular method and most attraction. Believe it or not small jerk baits works there as well. The bright red worm works the best overall
