Yes, remember that job where the house is built on the lower middle of a slope and you changed the upper slope with the dozer to keep rain from pouring in. A thicket of wild blackberries like that is only good for birds. You do spread dirt like a cook puts icing on a cake.

You are a maestro with your machines. You make them sit up & sing and is just a pleasure to watch. As far as those blackberries, I would be sad if they were the little wild ones but the large Himalayas? You can't get rid of them, and unless the ones you dug up are burned, will be rerooted in days.

Blackberries? Blackberries? Blackberries? My daughter decided to grow a blackberry bush in a pot in my back yard a few years ago. I have never seen such an invasive species of plant. The birds reseeded these things all over the neighborhood. I even have them growing in my hedges in the front of the house. The thorns are like rose bushes, except tiny and sharp and will cut through anything except a pair of welder's gloves. Roundup just slows them down. All this from a little plastic pot my daughter decided to plant in a pot in the backyard of my house.

As much as I like blackberries, it is really hard to salvage anything when it is that tangled. I have raspberries in my yard and the fact is that they need to be maintained every year. The plants that produced need to be removed and the new stalks need to be realigned. If anything, you are doing them a service. If they want blackberries, it will be a lot easier to make something out of what grows back then of the mess that was there when you started.

Yeah but I sure would have loved to grab a couple of gallons around the edges early in the am before the heat of the day and the "Blue Racers" woke up. Nothing like wild blackberries on top of vanilla ice cream to make the end of the day sweet. If you see black bodies snakes around black berries that are about two to three feet long, look for the blue and red stripes along the sides and round pupils in the eyes. Very common around those patches and nothing to worry about as not venomous and mostly want to escape from people, although I had a friend that had a couple for pets. Copperheads on the other hand I show some respect to and wait for them to move. they are just as bashful but if you stress them you will be making a trip to the ER for anti-venom. Whole different look to them though. Diamond shaped head with slit eyes and Grey body with brown or coppery color diamond shapes across the back and sides. Kind of more like hour glass shapes you could say. Hell, us kids would pick a gallon or two when they came in round home as a kid and mom would make jelly or syrup out of them and we had great toast and pancakes for a while. If she got real energetic and we worked hard at getting enough she would can up the jelly and syrup for the next winter. And that was good ice cream topping too. Little taste of summer in January. Loved it. Wild blackberries might have seeds but they taste so much better than the seedless ones you buy in the stores today. A little cheese cloth when you are squeezing them for jelly and syrup took out the seeds mostly anyways.

Wish the backfill around my house looked that good. I dug a utility trench with a 12" bucket on my backhoe 28" deep. In the 20' stretch along the back of the house, I filled my 10' dumptrailer with a combination of rock, concrete, blacktop, brick and other rubble. Unreal, but unfortunately it's a common practice. Strip and sell the topsoil and afterwards backfill with crap.
