This may sound weird, but I feel like we're kind of having a second golden age of demos (the first being the PSone) Square Enix especially has been leading the charge in an amazing way. I love being able to recommend a game to someone and be like "Hey, it has a free demo you can try!"

Til this day I wish Berseria wasn't a prequel. I want a sequel to the game very badly to see more Velvet. She has one of the best character development in jrpg of all time imo

Having demos is fantastic! Square Enix have been really great on that front for being able to transfer save data. Although..... Nothing beats the old demo discs you used to get with PlayStation magazine haha! Awesome video and great guests!

This was great, thank you! I’m a huge demo person. I play them to unwind before bed a lot and they are responsible for me falling in love with and purchasing so many games I would have never tried otherwise. It’s my hope that we move into a place where having a good demo that transfers progress becomes the norm. I personally would add Oninaki to the demo list. The story and gameplay were definitely a good time for me personally.

She was genuinely a good character. Strong, caring, bitter, conflicted, vulnerable, she was surprisingly human for a Tales character. I didn't expect that.

@@MrDarksol Didn't know there was an anime. Velvet was unique in that she truly hit rock bottom. I mean, what else could she really have taken away from her? And yet, she was still human and had love in her heart. It was a non-traditional hero's journey, but one none the less from human to monster to human again. That's inspiring in a lot of ways.

@@100Servings You were so lucky that you never found out that tales of zesteria the game that came out 1st had an anime because my God it's not even worth it. You're better off just watching the one episode that has velvet in it because it's literally the best episode in the entire show and it has nothing to do with the main characters from Tales of zesteria or as I have been affectionately calling it System Error.

So many good ones. :D Loved Arise, Scarlet Nexus and Star Ocean 6 so much. :) Both Arise and Berseria let you try out a smattering of what all the characters can do. It's not everything by any means, but it's a good cross-section. For Scarlet Nexus, I'd recommend at least trying two specific things: 1 Trying both Yuito and Kasane. I remember when the game came out everyone who tried it seemed split down the middle on whether they vibed more with Yuito's close-range ground-focused fighting style and Kasane's more ranged aerial style. 2 is that it IS possible to spend your SP in a way that lets you use two powers at once, and I recommend trying that out for a better taste of what the combat is like. :) Star Ocean 6 has a lot of options you can change in terms of both gameplay and graphical settings, and it's not as nicely optimized as the previous mentions, so definitely check your options if anything feels off at first. Same with your party members. Keep in mind that they'll directly utilize the combos you set for them, unlike Tales games where they just choose from a list of artes that you can check on or off.

I saw Velvet in the thumbnail and just thought I got tales of berseria on this spring steam sale. I didn't have a chance to play it before so I'm really looking forward to it! I already checked it out and it looks so beautiful😅. Not tales of arise but still more beautiful than many other jrpgs

I've never liked any of the Tales games, but Berseria is pretty fun. Being the "bad guys" definitely appeals to me, after decades of playing the hero. The combat isn't really my thing though. This was a great idea for a list. There have been plenty of times I was broke and wanted to play something new. Among the demos and beta tests I played was Shin Megami Tensei IMAGINE, the SMT MMORPG. It was slow, boring, and uninteresting, but that's what you get with a beta test. The other one I remember was playing World of Warcraft for about half an hour, then suggesting my wife give it a shot. She played for 6 hours, then asked if we could buy it. She remained addicted for several years... 😕

Non absolutely related but about Trials of Mana, after completing the game you can play a new game where the character's level carry on which I hated... because I didn't find any way to reset it. Is anything that can be done about it? I want to play the game all over again keeping most of the things except the level on the characters.

Trials of Mana’s NG+ doesn’t allow for selective carryover, so that’s not possible without a mod or something on PC
