These days, no way I'd take wheeled luggage anywhere unless road trip and no worries about baggage being lost. Lol. Plus, lugging around wheeled luggage is cumbersome if not in airport setting. Reality is you're likely going to walk with it more than expected, on different surfaces, and taking it up stairs maybe. No thanks. Backpacks all the way.

Very nifty! Thanks for the tip. I always thought the biggest pro to wheeled luggage was the hard outer shell that protects the contents from being smooshed, especially when carrying devices and equipment and whatnot, is that ever a problem with backpack luggage?

It hasn’t been. But I don’t pack fragile stuff or i might wrap stuff in clothes. Also these are carryon compliant so I store it in overhead cabinets.

I strongly prefer a backpack and don’t want or need wheels, but I haven’t been able to convince my wife to switch from a wheeled bag. Maybe a combination bag would be worth trying.

@@grrrltraveler I did. I speak about my experience and weakness of my back. I prefer to use or weeled bag for city trip or to have light backpack if I think I will need mostly to put the bag on my back.

Yes. If you use this as your carryon luggage item to stow overhead, you’re allowed a personal item like a purse or small day pack. I’d put your fanny pack inside it unless a fanny pack is all you need. 😁

I bet that's heavy and eats into the weight allowance compared to a normal backpack or even normal wheeled luggage.

Actually it doesn’t feel that way at all or I wouldn’t choose it. This is my entire carryon luggage do it must meet the weight limit. . I’m compensating for carrying it with the wheels but it’s not as heavy as folks think. And because I’ve conveniently got wheels I use it less and less as a backpack as all backpacks put stress on lower back and neck.
