The restaurant at 15:00 seems costly for one portion. Not sure how do they work but the price is not normal at all :)) I think they overcharge the foreigner too often so that they have the English menu.

Enjoying the Vietnam videos Ben. Interesting seeing the train ride and I'd be curious to take it myself. The train from Hanoi to Lao Cai which people take to see the rice terraces is an experience. It's the same train that goes through the streets of Hanoi. You'll get little if any sleep on it as it rocks from side to side. Dogs are eaten in Vietnam but from what I've been told by my Vietnamese friends it seems to be mostly in the north of the country. Friends I've spoken to in the central part seem to recoil at the idea. In late January it's New Year which is when it's done for good luck. An easy conversion is 25000 dong to $1/ £1/ 1€. It floats roughly around that.

Rivers in southern Vietnam are usually brown because they contain a lot of silt, not because they are dirty. There is no way to make them as clear as rivers in Europe. Only when it's black and smelly then it's dirty

In March 2014 I got a sleeper train from Hue to Hanoi and 2 hours into the journey a car drove across the tracks and collided with our train! Maddest thing was it only delayed us for about an hour before we were moving again 😂 if that happened in the UK, the whole line would be suspended for days! NB: I don’t know how injured the people were!
