Never trust the weather forecast in the Smokies! Great trip. I love that loop you planned out. I've wanted to head that direction from Newfound Gap but never have. Most of the rest of the trails I've done. I'm glad you said you liked Campsite 49. It's one of my favorite campsites in the Smokies. Your video quality looks fantastic btw. Good luck with the marathon . . .
@BryceNewbold7 жыл бұрын
Haha! Yes we learned not to trust the forecast. I think the rain we had was the only all week though so i'll take it! I was thinking about your thru hike when we were on the Benton Macaye. Thanks so much! Finished the marathon in 4 hours and 25 minutes. Cramped pretty bad at mile 22 but got through it!
@EvansBackpackingVideos7 жыл бұрын
Congrats re the marathon! I'm thinking about a return to marathoning after I attempt the AT. It's a comparable sort of challenge but doesn't take nearly as long to get through, lol. I watched your video twice by the way, looking at the way you set up your shots. If you ever see a shot in one of my videos in which the foreground is in focus, then I walk by on the trail out of focus--I stole that one from you!

Thanks Evan! and Haha, that awesome! I think i stole that one from Scrambled O. I feel like alot of my shots are influenced by him, Adventure Archives, and Joe Robinet.

Hey Bryce. Looked like a great trip! I really need to get down to North Carolina looks as beautiful as I remember it as a kid. I was able to get in several trips this year to Virginia and the AT but I only filmed a little so I know what you mean about just enjoying the moment. FWIW, I backpacked roughly 130 miles of the AT this year. All of it in my Hoka's (atr2) and they worked great...zero complaints. Take it easy bro and good luck with the marathon!

Bryce Newbold I really respect the things you two have done with the running side of things. Awesome. I used to love running but my knees can't take it anymore. This past year I've refined my gear and started to focus on hiking much longer distances. Sometimes I get into short jogging bursts but nothing prolonged. I've self committed to AT section hiking. Next summer I'd like to physically be able to do consecutive 20 mile days. I guess it's a journey to get there. If you get down toward Archers Fork let me know and maybe I can get out too. Take it easy.
@BryceNewbold7 жыл бұрын
Thanks a ton! its been a crazy year for us. We both are talking about taking it easy for awhile. I too have started to have knee issues. Some days more than others. Tackling the AT is a dream of mine. 20 mile in a day is a feat even for me. I could run it easier than hike it. I've thought of section hiking it. But i've actually been planning a full on thru hike. Mayb 2019? Been saving for year now and im halfway there. Only thing is i havnt told my employer yet. lol. Not sure how that will go over.

@BryceNewbold7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jason. Not sure what salomons they are. They actually dont even say on them and i threw the box away. They aren't even on the website, so i think they are a "Dicks Sporting Goods exclusive" or something. Probably why they were only 80 bucks. haha. The marathon went well. Was on pace for a 4 Hour finish but when the cramps hit at mile 22 it dropped me down to a 4:26. It was an experience. haha
@jasonwish-7 жыл бұрын
Pretty good pace for that distance...sounds like you were shooting to stay under a 9 min mile ave? I sure couldn't run that kind of distance. After 5 miles i feel like i have to walk some, but i can hike all day long at 3.3 mph ha ha. When I was at Red River Gorge two weeks ago the Rough Trail 50k was in progress....now that is some serious distance on some rugged terrain!!! but sounds fun!
@BryceNewbold7 жыл бұрын
Yea i was holding a good 9 min mile pace but 26 was too much for me that day. haha. I actually just did a half marathon last weekend and held a 7:30. Happy about that. Thanks John! Yea i think we spit in the creek. Probably not the best thing to do but the difference is that spit wont give someone giardia like pee or poo. I think we spit it out in the creek so that the spearmint toothpaste would wash far down stream to not attract any bears near our camp.
