Backpacking with the lightweight hot tent and wood stove would be the ultimate test. It was something I've always wanted to do, but wasn't able to until now, and I was totally stoked about it. The forecast for Boxing Day and the day after was 7℃ and raining, with a low of feels like 2 overnight. I could've just cold camped, but I was dying to see if I could backpack in with my new gear. Check out the video to see how things turn out, and a previous trip plan that didn't work out so well.

Thanks as always for sharing your adventure and for sharing your gear, especially that pillow. A good pillow / headrest can make the difference between a good night sleep and a poor night sleep. Be well my friend.

Looked like a peaceful tranquil area. Backpacking in is a better test for your new set up. Still waiting for winter to hit this year. Thanks for posting your video. Enjoyed watching, as usual.

I really like how you show setting up and taking down the tent and stove. Also showing that pretesting is very important before long trip and the safety tips which are all very important. Can’t wait to see some longer trips!! Another great little trip and video. Keep them coming!!

Thank you so much Nancy. I don’t do a lot of longer trips in the winter because of the time it gets dark. It’s difficult to spend more than 2 days out. I save all my vacation days for canoe tripping which is my priority, but there will be a few more coming. Hope you enjoy them. Cheers !

I thought it might be an issue, but it wasn’t even close to being one. The pack was definitely heavy and no I didn’t go into far but it was still a lot because I haven’t carried one in a while. I’m glad the snow is here so I can bring my gear and on the sled next time. So glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Cheers!

Great boxing day overnighter. I totally agree, those stove bags are hard to pack. Perhaps lashing it to the top, bottom or back of your pack? I've done top and back and both have worked depending how well I've pack everything else.. Nate

Thanks. I’m not a fan of lashing too many things to my pack. If it was uncomfortable to carry, I would do so, but it wasn’t. Thanks for watching Nate, and taking the time to comment. Cheers!

Oh Hi, nice to see you headed out for a wee camp out, pretty spot to place your tent overlooking the lake ,Must say i love your new sleeping bag . The little wood burner i have seen looks like it works well , hope all went well again with the new tent happy you were able to get out for an overnighter and away before the heavy rain.

Easiest is to fill in unevenness with spruce branches and the like. You then also get a bed that comes up from damp ground.

It's great to see we now have even more new types of trips to view. Thx. Question though, how much did u pay for the sleeping pad? I'm a big fan of sportcheck, I get discounts there, but it was sold out and no price was given 😢. I solo hot tent and want to upgrade mine. Also, other than the uneven ground, how do u like sleeping on the ground vs on a cot? Temps are cooler down there. I can't wait to see more with snow. Keep it coming, thx again. 😊

Thanks Maggie! I am not a big fan of backpacking even though I do use my backpack to portage which I love but backpacking is a whole different bird. This one was out of necessity, and hopefully won’t have to be repeated, but I want to get out no matter what and this system now allows me to do this as well as the other options which is fantastic. If you look in the description of the video, you will find a link to the sleeping pad and you can find it costing various prices. I got mine from latitude sports, which is a great discount website that I found and I highly recommend checking them out. They also have a price guarantee. I think with all of the discounts I ended up paying about $225 for it. As for sleeping on the ground, if you’ve seen my other winter camping videos, you will see that I have done it quite often. Sleeping on a cot is usually the anomaly, not sleeping on the ground, and I have no issues with it. It is a bit colder, which is why I am happy that I have a much higher rated sleeping pad, but if you check my previous videos, you will see I used to bring a closed cell mat, a tarp, my summer sleeping mat, and sometimes a second sleeping mat. Thanks so much for the great comment and I hope I answered all of your questions. Also, you can find all of the gear and the information and links to them that I use on my website at camperchristina.com. Cheers!
