Join Sara, Lisa, Allison, Colin and myself on a four day, three night backpacking adventure along the Manistee River in Michigan! Day one we started off by driving six hours to Michigan and arrived at 10:30pm in the Seaton Creek campground. Day two was our first full day, we put in about ten miles along the North Country Trail section of the loop. We did manage to snag some awesome river views towards the end of the day and set up at a primo camp spot along the river.
Day three was by far the most beautiful of the trip. It was a very leisurely eight mile hike for the day. The majority of the day was spent in close proximity to the Manistee River. You can tell we were approaching peak fall foliage, the trail was packed with hikers and campers and the river traffic was constant with fishermen, kayakers and canoers. Combining the natural beauty of the river with the changing leaves made for some breathtaking scenery. We were lucky to find another great spot right next to the river to set up camp.
Day four we finished up with about three miles of hiking, ending near Trippy Dam. I highly recommend going on your own backpacking adventure here, the hiking is easy and the views are unbeatable!

The green pod you found was a oak apple gall, made by a wasp doing damage to an oak leaf, they use them to lay larvae in . Nice find on the mushrooms . Great trip👍👊

Great video, Travis. I really like the more "cinematic" style of this video. Less talking and more just showing the sights and sounds, etc.. 🍻

It's definitely worth checking out. It was a little busier than I would have liked but the weather was amazing, and it was peak leaves, so I'm not surprised. The NCT side of the river was mediocre. The Manistee River trail is a must see though.

Did you find that you had good cell service in this area by chance? Sorry to pose that question to you, but I'm looking at traveling there next week but have a reason to need cell service. Normally I'm searching for a way to lose service! This time I need it.

Sorry I honestly have no idea. I’m always running my GPS and my mic requires airplane mode so I never check. Only way I’d know is if I turn off airplane in my hammock and happen to have some.

What a fun crew, I loved the mushroom exploration. That was a great firewood prep. I just wish your girl would've caught a fish! Michigan was a really unexpected surprise for me. You should definitely check out Pictured Rocks. Here is a video I made of a trip my niece and I took. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2K6aqhoZr2Ki6c
