I ❤ the Continental Divide! So much gorgeous scenery and moose sightings are always a special treat. I would live closer to it but the air at Boulder is about as thin as I want to live in. At least here we've got the Flatirons to hike around when there's no time to travel further. Thanks for being a good influence. Off to Mt. Sanitas. 😀

I do too!! I think I could get used to the thin air and do consider moving up to the mountains sometimes but I’m not sure I could handle the winters up there! Yay Sanitas! One of my local favorites!

We’re doing this loop in September. So helpful to be able to preview it. Thank you! 0:03 Unfortunately we’re staying at Granite Falls, too.

Hopefully it’s cooler and the flies are gone by then!

Not sure what you were expecting at Granite Falls. The Troublesome Fire in 2020 destroyed that area including all of the trees. So of course that creates exposure.

There were plenty of campsites in the area in much better shape than this one. What I would expect is for rangers to shut a campsite down if a site is in this bad of shape. Or give people a heads up, since you have to have a reserved campsite rather than just playing by ear where you're going to stay, and offer for them to switch if there is a better option available.

Great video. I love your wildflower shots! Going to be in Rocky Mountain National Park in 2 weeks at Estes Park. What is your favorite trail on the east side for wildflower viewing? Look forward to your John Muir trail adventures!

Thanks, Mike! You know, I’m not sure. I tend to avoid that side of the park this time of the year because it’s so busy with all the summer visitors coming through. But if you get the chance, I can recommend the hike to Lake Isabelle (following the Jean Lumming trail around Long Lake on the way up to Isabelle) in the Brainard Lake area, which isn’t too far away. There are always a ton of wildflowers around Long Lake, and Lake Isabelle is just stunning. Just note that you do need a timed entry permit for that area.

Through hiking these long distance trails have been a dream of mine for many years. Unfortunately, I'm too scared of lightning ⚡ and thunderstorms. 😢

Definitely something to be aware of but here in Colorado you can generally predict them - the storms usually come in the afternoons! And I didn’t have much of a problem with thunderstorms on the Appalachian Trail - just a lot of rain.

Is there a campsite you would recommend on the tonohatu side?

Nice video. I heard that a hiker on the CDT in WY was killed by a bear. No need to apologize. Life often gets in the way of fun. Is fireweed blue or purple? Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick

Thanks, Rick! I just saw that about the woman attacked by the bear. I guess she was jogging near a campground when she was attacked. Not right on the CDT but very near it. I assume it was a Grizzly but haven’t seen anything confirming that. Very scary! I would consider fireweed to be a deep pink.
