Great Video! Backpacking is the best! Such a fun way to get out of town and into nature for a couple days!

Thanks for the great videos. I've really enjoyed getting my fix of the great scenery in California while being in lock down in Australia. I miss camping in Yosemite. Cheers.

I always like the first two lakes north of Devils Postpile. They show the process of how lakes turn into meadows. They usually have a lot of mosquitoes in the early part of an average summer. After a big winter that lasts long into summer, the bugs there can be thick and relentless. A fire started up just above the junction of the Muir and Ediza Lake trails back around 1989 to 1991. I'm too lazy to get up and read my career fire log that is framed and hanging on the wall in my office ot check the year. A backpacker had lit their toilet paper on fire and the duff (decomposing organic material) was about 3-4 feet deep where this happened. We flew in on a helicopter. We all had our flight suits on with visored helmets and we had the visors down over our faces when we got out to walk away from the ship. We must have looked like aliens to the numerous people that watched us fly in. My boss, myself and a very colorful person who worked for me were part of the crew that put the fire out. It took us a couple of days due to the thick duff. We had a portable pump next to Shadow Creek and were spared having to backpack 5 gallons on our backs, which would have made this a two week effort. We had so much fun together, employees bonding and all of that. It was a lot of work though. Out of the 108 fires I was on in my career, I was only on about 3 "burning toilet paper" fires. It isn't all that common, but not unusual either. You can't do this when it is windy, should not do it when campfires are prohibited due to fire danger and should never do it unless there is mineral soil to bury your poop and TP in. If the soil has substantial organic material in it, don't burn the stuff! It really isn't all that hard to pack it out either. There are kits available to pack out everything that make it a little more pleasant. I love it when someone makes a backpacking video taken on the Mammoth Ranger District, Inyo National Forest, the last assignment of my career. It was also the very best. 10 great years for me.

You consistently make videos that take your viewers along with you and let them finish with a real impression of what that hike would be like. Always enjoy them, though you're filling up my bucket list faster than I can empty it, Thx.

It was very nice to watch this again. This stretch of the JMT is epic. I did it in 2013 but started in Tuolumne Meadows and ended in Devil's Postpile. Nowadays you pretty much need to go the direction you guys went because it's easier to obtain a permit. I thought you guys were going all the way to the Valley, didn't remember that TM was the end.

Very first time I did that run I didn't even know I had to have a Wilderness Permit in 1972. I love the Ansel Adams area, no exaggeration, I love it. I thought Johnston Lake was the first Lake? Only about a mile and a half from DPP. I always camped at Garnet Lake when on a one week trip and fish. It is the most beautiful spot on the JMT. I would sometimes climb Mt. Banner for the view. It is fairly easy, Mt. Ritter behind it, not so much, bring crampons and an ice ax. LOL Have you ever gone over Donahue when it was covered with 40-60 feet of snow? My first time going south bound, was actually easier in some ways as it evened everything out. Got a little lost though. Two days? I always took a week. LOL

Haha no I have never gone over donohue in 60 feet of snow - wow!! That’s intense! I prefer the warm summer months🤠

That was June, about the 20th, 1972 and my first time, but I was with two mountaineers one of whom had been over the pass and we still got a little lost. From the south bound side you cannot see the pass until you're up there near it. The winter of 2017/18 saved the Lyell and Maclure glaciers from melting almost completely. Over 100 feet of snow will do that.

This may sound like a stupid question, but watching you get everything on for your second day, I was wondering, what kind of belt you use with your pants?
