Your solo adventure through the Eastern Sierra looks incredible! The Mammoth Crest Loop offers such breathtaking views, especially once you reach the crest and see the Sierra Nevada range laid out before you. It must have been amazing to camp at Barney Lake under the stars after such a rewarding hike. Very nice vidoe for sure 👌

I really appreciate your enthusiasm and resilience. I too feel that the Sierra Nevada have few equals in this world. I am currently living in Chile, which is also pretty spectacular, but I have yet to find that feeling that the Sierras gave me during the approximately 50 years that I backpacked there. A driving force every year that I lived in California was to go on one to two, seven to fourteen day trips into that awesome backcountry every year. I really miss it. I have followed your videos for a few years now and congratulate you on the variety of presentations that you have used. They just keep getting better.

So jealous. I have had my fun backpacking and hiking over numerous mountain ranges but my knees and lungs are not what they used to be. When driving or looking at Google Maps I still plan out climbs. Yes, the Eastern approach is the best. Thanks for not being an Influencer with product tie ins. Your editing and effort are appreciated.

Fantastic hike! I camped at Barney Lake two weeks ago, so beautiful up there. Can't believe you get all your gear in that small pack! Regarding the talus field going up out of Deer Lakes, it looks like the trail has been tramped down so you can actually see it to follow it. Can you provide more details of what it's like and if you can actually see a trail to follow once you get up there?
@Sheety3313 күн бұрын
Thanks for your question! There is a little and very faint trail leading and winding up the talus pass from the upper deer lake.

Always good to get high as quickly as possible -- and the eastern Sierra excels for that purpose. Thanks for making the extra effort to bring us along! Oh, and the OG hikers call those shallow lakes "tarns", probably after the Scotsman whose name now applies to the wilderness area you're in!

Thanks! Btw, i have a suggestion/request for a future episode: list of the best dayhikes IYO in Eastern Sierras. My family and I are avid hikers, but prefer dayhiking over backcountry camping. I'm not from Cali, so not familiar with all the little roads off of 395 that seem to provide access to some great gems. Would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Aw, so beautiful--and quite a long walk! Thanks for showing how you pack your stuff, I'm a beginner so need the hints and a lot of practice. Thanks for the wonderfully filmed and edited video! Kearsarge is such a great Eastside pass...gets you to such good stuff! That devastated part of the trail from 2022 was not from avalanche, but from mud/rockslide during August monsoon season. That slide happened the same day that Death Valley got major damage from flash floods. We (my wife and I) escaped that day from Center Basin where we got blocked (from heading south on the JMT) by a flash flood at 11,000ft! Crazy. We escaped (it was our 7th straight day of rain) via Kearsarge and had to negotiate that part of the trail just hours after the slide.
@Sheety3322 күн бұрын
I did not know that about the devastated area of trail - incredible to think about really! Glad you and your wife made it out - pretty crazy to have a flash flood that high in the mountains!

Little Lakes Vally (through which Rock Crk flows) is the most beautful Eastern Sierra bang for the hiking buck. Mosquito Flat pkg lot where you left your car is one of the highest paved roads in the Sierra (10,000ft) . A close rival is Horseshoe Meadow way back south out of Lone Pine. The relatively flat Little Lakes Valley trail is one thing, but getting out of the car at 10K and huffing down the trail can be challenging to the unacclimated, which is most people. Your Timelapse of your camp during the night was GORGEOUS.

50 years ago I hiked the same area. The scenery in your video took my breath away and brought back memories of my hike, such as catching and releasing golden trout, my faithful Irish setter with his little backpack, and a late night snow storm. OMG, I forgot how spectacular the scenery is. Thanks for sharing.
