Backpacking Australia East Coast 🇦🇺 Episode 6📍Whitsundays (Atlantic Clipper)
Come spend 2 days and 2 nights with me on the famous Atlantic Clipper backpacker boat in the Whitsundays! This is an honest and realistic of my vlog on the boat including my review at the end. We visited Whitehaven beach, I went snorkelling and scuba diving and slid down the inflatable slide a LOT of times.
This video was filmed in March 2023.

FAQ's
How do you afford to travel? - I now earn a full time living through creating these KZbin videos, affiliate links, selling digital products and my clothing line. I used to simply just work any temporary job I could find to save up to travel! I budget the money I earn meticulously to reach my savings goals using www.backpackingbananas.com/pr...
Is travelling solo safe? - I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government's guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

I always love a real honest review! Being 29 as well, watching this before you mentioned feeling old i was thinking to myself i would have loved this at 22, but not sure i could hang now lol. Thank you for making videos that appeal to people in our age group who don't want to grow out of backpacking :) It's the most freeing feeling in the world and shouldn't have to end at 25/26. I love to see other people living live on their own terms, and true to themselves, and showing life does not only have to look one certain way to be fulfilling!

You always seem to make the most out of any situation you are in. It's a wonderful quality to have! But it's comforting to hear your honest review - I wouldn't have enjoyed being in such a big boat with people much younger than me either! 😅

When you get to Cairns I would recommend the Karanda Railway, I did a bus up and train down to save money but understand there is the Skyrain for some extra great views as well.😊

Hi Christianne! I just wanna say that some videos have parts where I see the waterline showing when halfway underwater when I see you swimming and treading water! I also love parts where the waterline is showing when going all the way underwater when you go underwater and swim underwater, and then coming out of the water seeing the waterline showing!

I’ve been a silent follower of yours for years and have never commented before but absolutely loved this video! I have backpacked the east coast twice, once when 19 and once when 28 (most recently October 22!) It was so nice to see such an honest review of the clipper, I have never been on it but I did the New Horizon in 2014 and whilst it was still what I called a “party boat” I have heard it’s less so than the clipper and more chilled! This time around I actually went with Powerplay and cannot recommend them enough!! There was 17 of us on the boat and we did 3 days 3 nights and whilst we all still did drink it was so chilled and you got fed SO WELL and comfy beds too! Highly recommend them if you’re thinking of doing the Whitsundays! Amazing video it brought back such good memories ☺️☺️

I had an amazing experience on The Clipper's sister ship, New Horizon last year. The age group was defending more late twenties early 30s and we had a blast. The crew were incredible. They did an amazing job and we all really felt like family. Once back on shore we arranged to go out for drinks because we weren't ready for it to end. I'd 💯 recommend New Horizon for older backpackers x

What a great and honest review, thank you for sharing! It’s evident that you had a brilliant time, cracking weather and were surrounded by a great group of individuals. We really want to thank you for addressing the misconceptions about the Atlantic Clipper’s reputation, it’s refreshing to see the record set straight. We have never positioned or marketed ourselves as a “party boat”, but with 54 passengers, BYO alcohol and the rumours, we understand why this misconception came about. We have created an atmosphere that is fun, social and fosters camaraderie between the group, which is evident through games like the sing-along and statues, none of which encourage drinking or are mandatory. Our ultimate goal is to ensure a safe but fun trip and that every guest departs with a truly memorable experience of the iconic sights of the Whitsunday Islands We're hoping to dispel these rumours and we hope that this honest review brings to light the reality of our fun, safe and social trip! Next time, we’d love to invite you to experience the New Horizon, the chilled sister boat to the Atlantic Clipper 😊!

I sailed the Whitsundays with SV Whitehaven in 2018 and it was wonderful, unfortunately they aren’t operating anymore. But it was wonderful, not a party boat and a perfect mix of young backpackers & „older“ travelers. We saw so many humpback whales, had wonderful music playing, kayaking, snorkelling with turtles, drinking goon & watching the wonderful sunset! We had to wear the stinger suits as well hahaha I also did a speed boat tour with ocean rafting, but it felt super rushed, we wouldn’t connect with the other people or the crew on board and we felt sick the entire boat ride. So I would deffo recommend a 1 or 2 night sailing experience!!

I went with the same company but took the New Horizon boat which is a smaller vessel and had an “older” (early thirties to late twenties and under) crowd (I was 30 at the time. It was smaller so still did feel cramped since we had 32 people which is the max but I reckon wasn’t as crowded as the clipper looked. Wish their boats had more seating though. Next time I’d go a bit more bougie and do a slightly more luxurious boat with a different company. If you’re on a budget and travelling solo, I do recommend the New Horizon, our crew didn’t speak to us disrespectfully like yours - they were lovely. I made a video on it actually so can check it out to see how it compares if you’re curious. Whitehaven beach is stunning 🏝️ The only other thing I found odd is the lack of diversity in the people who go on these boat trips, it looks like it draws in a crowd of similar looking people (I was the only non white person and coming from a diverse country like Canada I found it odd). Anyway, Cheers!

Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays are so bittersweet for me. I was there in mid-June. On one hand, it’s gorgeous but on the other hand, I had to isolate there for a few days because I got COVID for the first time! 😅 I had to cancel my original boat because I was still positive but finally tested negative and was able to last minute book myself on the British Defender for a 1 night/ 2 day boat and honestly it was probably for the best. Our boat was only half full (so there was only like 10 of us, 9 girls and one boy 😂) so we really got to know each other. We even saw a whale when it came SUPER close to our boat! I loved our little crew and we definitely had a fun after party (the details are still blurry to me 😆). I may be even seeing my new friend again for Oktoberfest since he lives in Munich and I’ll be there in September! Thanks for sharing your experience because I had a little FOMO since all my friends went on the Clipper.

I went on clipper in 2015 as a lil 19 year old solo traveller. I booked in Sydney but by the time I got to Airline I'd got so wound up by the comments of 'oh god hope you'll be ok' and the 'are you sure you wanna go on that' that I almost didn't go. I did go though and honestly had the time of my life. I think they've tried to to clean up the reputation since but even then the games never felt too much and to my memory no one was ever forced to be involved. Back then the I was one of the youngest and the average age was probably closer to 26 so interesting to hear how it's changed.

Wow really interesting to hear your experience! Wild how those rumours still float around like that, given how tame the boat actually is 😅 but yes the average age was definitely more like 21/22 on my boat!

Hmm While I truly enjoy the snorkeling parts and seeing the underwater world, I find it a bit conflicting when fishing is shown in the same video. It seems like a case of cognitive dissonance, as it promotes both appreciation for marine life and potentially causing harm to it. I believe your content has the power to inspire positive change, and perhaps considering sustainable fishing practices or alternative activities could align better with the conservation message.😊
