TARPTENT Notch!! (Not Hilleberg Notch) Henry Shires makes all Tarptents in the USA in California. I have the TT Moment DW which has a hoop pole in a sleeve. Very similar to the Notch but a tad heavier and more wind-worthy. You should have it in this comparison. ALSO, I shortened the optional Crossing Pole and ran it UNDER the fly for much more snow load support. You can't do that in the Atko or Enan. UPDATE: I bought the TT Notch Li (DCF fabric at US $600.) I know, It's eye-wateringly expensive but very light and sturdy when properly guyed out.

Try using the Niak in 80mph winds like the Akto has verifiably stood up to. And look on all the feedback on the Akto by actual users. I think you just don't understand the advantages and disadvantages of the different designs.
@Backpackinglightse5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't want either of those tents in 80mph winds. Or rather, I probably wouldn't want to risk any tent in those kinds of winds. It happens, but not often as campsite selection is as important if not more so than the actual shelter being used. I get your point, and understand where your coming from - the Akto just doesn't work for me and I would take the Niak any day over the Akto.

To be fair the Atko is a Red label four season tent and the Niak is for warmer weather. Great for a long distance tour

It’s funny when you say the Niak is heavy with it’s 1.7kg 😅 I carried several hundred km a Fjällräven Absiko View 2 , and that one is heavy. But I guess you compare Niak to ultra light tents so I can under stand why you say it’s heavy 😊

With respect to your recommendation to buy the Niak and not the Akto, I could see that if you are talking about 3 season camping. However, if you are doing 4 season camping that includes strong winds and blowing snow, wouldn't the Akto offer better protection? I wonder if the exposed screen mesh on a Niak wouldn't be a disadvantage? The Akto also seems to have a decent track record of holding up in strong (60+ mph winds) in Scotland and other exposed windy areas. Would the Niak with its steeper/broader sides and lighter fabric work as well in heavy winds?
@Backpackinglightse6 жыл бұрын
yes, the entire video is for three season.. The niak certainly has it's drawbacks - the biggest being a bad design with regards to rain.. when your in your niak and it's raining you can't open the vestibule, if you do the inside of you sleeping area will get drenched. With that said, for three season hiking, I think the Niak is just a better choice to the Akto. Much bigger, lighter, easier to setup so on and so forth. With that said, I would still chose the NIak over the akto even for winter hiking, the aktos innertent sags massively when the condensation hits.. and in the winter your tent is going to be filled with condensation. This means that the Aktos innertent will be a wet, damp face mask that you get to wear all night. With that siad, if my main hiking was winter expeditions than I would probably chose the Suolo instead as it's more designed for that kind of use

How do you think Hilleberg Yellow Labels tent is in tought conditions, above the treeline in Swedish mountains? Having problem choosing tent from Hilleberg. Allak 2 has it all for me and my 10 year old girl, but the wheigt might be quite to much for me to carry. But I am afraid to be disapponted to buy a Yellow label tent like the Niak. Sometime in august we got snow in Sarek.. Hiking with my fishing buddies, we use my Nammatj 3 GT, heavy but superb in ALL conditions. I´m also using the Hilleberg 10 tarp and would like to find someting between. I would lika to have a 2 persons Hilleberg, but that also will work as a solotent... lot´s of thinking going on.. :)

Thanks for the video! So valuable info, cause it came exactly, when I am choosing between akto end enan! And from another point of view it is more problematic to choose. Because I thought, ok, if enan, it is approx 1000:- more... shit, could work, but now niak is 1000:- more. Now I don't know what to do, it becomes too much. A was thinking towards akto, because of durability, but maybe it's extra enxiety, and kerlon 1000 is enough, for instance for going to Sarek? Would you personally take Enan to Sarek. If it works, then I will definitely should buy Enan. But actually I began to look for a tent from another brands, like MSR, I didn't think about the Hilleberg, prise is still a nightmare for me, but for instance Msr Hubba NX is not cheap also, but it looses a lot in quality, and it's only 1200mm. Regarding to this, may be you can suggest some tent, which is cheaper then Hilleberg, but still ok to use both in summer, and it's strong enough for example for North Sweden? Thank's in advance, love your channel.

HI, to be fair the Akto is a great tent, just not for me.. I realize that didn't quite come off in the video.. I might have to re-edit the video. More to the point, buy the Enan. It's a great tent for what you want to do. The argument can be made that Hillebergs in general are made for the mountains. I have personally used the Enan in the mountains, and I know a few people who have used them in sarek as well. They are great tents

Backpackinglightse Thanks, almost decided. One more detail - is it same or some ventilation in enan's vestibule on the top, like akto has? Is it ok to cook in enan's vestibule?
@Backpackinglightse6 жыл бұрын
Aleksejs Shumilovs ventilation on the enan is superior to the akto through and through.
@alekseyshumilov23046 жыл бұрын
Hi again! I am still thinking, and now towards the niak. I wounder how is vestibule? Is it worse then akto/enan. At the akto /enan it hangs over the living side, niak's vest has more sharp angle. So is it ok to cook there? And...about the akto, it has a ventilation opening on top of the vestibule, which is great I guess. So, is it what one could desire to have on enan? Regarding to this, question about cooking is same to enan, cause if you open at top and it rains... And regarding to enan's superior vent - it means also less temperature in cold weather , isn't it? Thanks for your time, and sorry for disturbance, I am hesitating.
@paulstaffordcook87996 жыл бұрын
I can definitely recommend the Niak.... yes, vestibule not the biggest.... but you can collapse a portion of the inner tent if you need to cook. Great tent, I’m really enjoying mine (review on my KZbin channel).

Thanks for a nice video! I'm looking to buying a one man tent right now. I've tried both the Enan and Niak, and they are really nice tents in there own way. If the weight wasn't an issue I would buy the Niak all day. But I do think about weight and space in my pack, as I'm trying to go more lightweight. So I'm looking for a tent that is the lightweight and will withstand strong winds and rain up in the Swedish mountains, above the tree line, that dosen't cost a fortune. I walk with trekking poles and don't mind a tent with a little more room, for more comfort. What tent would you surgest? I'm looking forward to receiving your advice!
@Backpackinglightse6 жыл бұрын
NorthernLaitila IF you use trekking poles take a look at the tarptent stratospire. About twice the size of the enan, uses trekking poles, double entry/exit and a beast I heavy winds.. weighs 990grams backpackinglight.se/talt/1-personstalt/tarptent-stratospire-1

Why wouldn't you just buy the Hilleberg Solo? Nice video buddy. Who cares what ultralighters think, in my experience they never go further than there keyboard anyway. Or do one big trail them spend years talking about it
@Backpackinglightse5 жыл бұрын
Well.. that is certainly one way to look at things.. though the same could be said about any style that isn't your preferred style? Not the best way to look at the world :) I think manufacturers care very much what the ultralight crowd thinks, and more so as technology catches up to the mainstream producers. with that said, the Suolo is a great tent for certain conditions and situations.. but, to bring it on something like the PCT would be absolutely pointless.. different tents for different uses. In the woods I only use a simple tarp - summer winter or fall.. I guess if one where to car camp or not walk very far than nothing really matters..
@WorldSurvivalist5 жыл бұрын
@@Backpackinglightse Interesting response, I think the idea of using a different style of shelter to fit the environmental conditions gose without saying,and it's not something I was referring too. Your videos us showing one man tents of near equal value and weight to something like the solo. My question was more why not just buy the tent that on almost every measurable scale is a better tent? It's not about a preference to style or manufacturer. I dont even own a tent other than a large hot tent. I'm tarp guy. But I recognise that if you want a 1 man 4 season tent. Then the dolo is currently the best one. As for the PCT I would use a tent for that. Some manufacturers care about selling overpriced stuff to people who will buy it. Not really my point tho
@sibeliusjohannes26605 жыл бұрын
I used a Hilleberg Unna since 2005 in nearly all kinds of weather. Still it's in a great condition (except the connectors of the inner tent, which are still the same crap in 2019 in all HB tents and wear out after a few years). But now I switched for a Gatewood cape, because I'll walk for several month and try to reduce the weight where I can. Yes I'm concerned about wind a little, but so far it made it quite well. Had it out in 40km/h winds...
