36+ batteries...next. That is such a deal breaker on a strobe.

Having 8 batteries per strobe works fine. Just remember to take both battery caps! I've recently been using these on a 10-day trip to the Maldives and the batteries in the strobes lasted longer than my camera.

Not a problem for me, Rarely need the second set, as I can do 4 to 6 dives with one set, depending on the amount of wide angle at full power I use. And I use the classic eneloop, not the pro. With a 8 battery charger, The next day, everything is charge up and ready. Best strobe I ever had (previous model : retra flash pro X)

Same here; I just spent 10 days in Raja Ampat with the Retra Pro Max. The battery longevity was tremendous! They last far longer than the camera battery. I took 36 NiMH AA batteries with me and was able to loan some of them to another photographer since they last so long in the Retra Pro Max.

They're honestly really easy to load and usually last for 4+ dives with the booster if that helps convince you. Plus, no weird giant batteries that TSA will question you about.
