Ian is one of THE guys for me. He brought a lot of honesty and humility to a genre which didn't have a whole lot of either thing. I remember being so taken with "Irene Wilde" and its tale of rejection. How many other rockers could have written a song like that? He's always been so genuine and he doesn't put himself above you like so many others. I just hope that he'll eventually be given his full due as a great writer.

Just got a CD of MTH's hits, remember really liking "Dudes" and "Memphis" on NY radio in the early 70s--never forgot those songs. I had no idea Ian Hunter was so talented and brilliant. And right on about US politics too.

England Rocks was SECOND? I thought Cleveland Rocks was an adaptation, too. The remake (England) not nearly as good. Wow, to WMMS/Kid Leo mention. I used to work at MMS as Leo's request line operator, as a high school student. Got to hang out at the station all day, instead of school under guise of internship. Dream gig! Meanwhile, Ian IS Mr. Rock & Roll, as no one else. Always sticks to original template. Interviewer here did very good job, too.

Yeah, I have it too. So "England Rocks was 1977 and Cleveland is 78. I guess what he's saying he wrote it as Cleveland rocks. I ALWAYS assumed England Rocks was the way he wrote it. I like England Rock better for some reason.
