Dave Mustaine is a creative genius, a living legend, and a businessman who doesn't give an inch when it comes to money, but he's also truly a Jekyll & Hyde type personality. I did a lot of promotion for Mustaine and Megadeth back during the System Has Failed Era as well as the United Abominations era. I also bought a Jackson guitar directly from Mustaine when he injured his arm and put his gear up for sale. He was cool to me at times on the Megadeth boards and grateful for the promotion I did, but one day he called me a liar on the Megadeth forums which showed me the other side of Mustaine first hand. I had posted a review of a Gigantour show I attended in which I described it as one of the best shows of my life. I also mentioned a funny moment when he was playing Mechanix all messed up prior to going into the song. He said to the crowd "that's how it would sound if I were on quaaludes" and then properly ripped into the actual intro. Mustaine read my post and glossed right over the phenomenal review I had written only to immediately deny saying it and then posted a second time in the same thread calling me a liar. I still have a recording of the full concert I attended on a CD-R so Mustaine can deny it all he wants, but he said it. It was just a dick move by him considering all the promotion I did for free on his behalf. I still love Megadeth's music, but Mustaine hasn't matured very much over the years. Fans like the Kingmaker bass intro, so it was an uncalled means to bash Ellefson.

If he didn't like what Junior put in the song then he should've said no as the bandleader that has final say, instead of bitching about it years later. As for Broderick, now I see one of reasons why he followed Shawn Drover right out the door when he quit. Makes sense now. Mustaine ALWAYS talks shit about everyone who has been in that band. If Kiko or Dirk wind up leaving for whatever reason, I'm sure he'll have some BS today about them too. This behavior is obviously instilled in him going back to him getting the boot from you know who all those years ago. It's as obvious as the nose on one's face. Resentment is a hell of a thing to carry. Not healthy.

If you have ever seen Megadeth's behind the music, then you'd know this behavior of his comes from a very young age, he had a very very troubled upbringing that probably influenced his personality, it's the main reason that other band got rid of him, it wasnt the drinking or the drugs, cause all of them were doing that.

Yeah… You might want to look a little less uncritically at what Ellison is saying here… what I actually think happened is that Mustaine did say add your ideas but he didn’t necessarily say record them because that actually cost money. Ellefson easily could’ve showed him what he wanted to do and gotten Dave’s approval. And yes it is about publishing, but it’s shitty to add things into someone else’s song without even checking with them first. If Ellison wants to be a songwriter that bad, why didn’t he do it the first 20 years he was in the band??? Also, after following this drama for a while, and being a fan of Megadeth since the demos, I am very aware of Ellefson‘s passive voice. All the people Who have been in and out of Megadeth and this is the first time it was about Metallica??? He casually ignores that he sued the Megadeth organization for 22 million and lost horribly. He acts like his nearly 60 year old ass going after a barely legal girl is anything like normal… Lastly, nine out of the 12 new songs have Kiko‘s contribution. One has Dirks… kinda hilarious that people keep saying that he doesn’t want anybody’s contributions but over 75% of the new songs have other people‘s contributions and they get publishing.

Remember Ellefson sued Dave M for 18 million back in 2018 and then dropped the suit and came back to play with Megadeth it was his legal trouble that got him kicked out of the band but nevertheless they have been through a lot together and always made great music it’s a shame if it ends like this.

That is probably the biggest truth. The music BUSINESS, and business is money. I have no idea on David's lawsuit that got shut down but it stated he was suing for song writing credits as well as merchandise and publishing. One of my favorite bands of all time -- have seen them over 10 times live including the RIP tour ... that being said I am just not that enthused about the new album despite being bombarded by all media. You can see that Junior is giving us the full story, and it feels true, whereas Dave M. --- why is he bringing Kingmaker up? Dissing Junior? Observing him for decades, Mustaine is trying to create drama. Instead I wish he would address his inner demons. He is running out of time. You would think he would get his act together after his recent brush the the big C. While I did really like Dystopia, the albums since World Needs a Hero are different -- 'that band is long gone' explains a lot. Their live appearance on Trunk is the first time that I really felt the band was missing something, and it was Dave M, not the backing band. It is like the love of the music has left, and he is just going through the motions for money. I will probably get the latest album, but I think Dave M. is giving me permission to move on to a new favorite band... namely Jinjer!

In Dave’s defense many great songs there were arguments, fighting over everything and the outcome is usually better. When only one song written gets their was usually the song is too tame. I remember a song my last band wrote there was so much arguing we all got so mad at each other we took it so personally and that song ended up being one of our best songs and looking back the song would have sucked if that didn’t happen, I had parts that I wanted to be longer but would have been stupid to be longer, the singer wanted this stupid effect on the whole intro but sounded better only for a couple words.

Perhaps, it goes back to when David sued, but I have to agree with David then why bring him back? I have always been a Megadeth fan, I was so happy when Dave kicked his drug demons but I have never understood the switching out of members some very talented musicians btw over the years. My understanding is that after Dave used Chris's Rust in Peace demo tracks for the RIP re-issue in 2004, Chris and Dave squabbled about rights/money issues and since then they've been estranged from each other.

It’s obvious to anyone who has been around since the early 80s to know that Dave is an innovator when it comes to thrash, no one disputes this. However, he is a life long depressive and can’t, or won’t take ownership of his own shortcomings. It’s Metallica’s fault he is not happy, it’s Marty’s fault on why he left, it always seems to be someone else’s fault. He reminds me a lot of Aaron Rogers …extremely talented but everywhere he is something or someone else is to blame for things not working out. It’s a shame because he is THE riff master …you put the Riffs from Youthanasia and let Metallica have them and they would turn it into gold. Dave should have just become a producer for Metallica and been happy.

Bit like Metallica, James and lars want credit for every song. Seen it in hardwired when making the album, Robs idea’s getting passed by and lars telling Kirk how to do his solos. Still like both bands but think we would have had way more brilliant songs if they just let more of the band have a input.

What's revealing is that after Metallica kicked him out, James, Lars, and Kirk stuck together for almost 40 years now, while Dave can't keep literally anyone in Megadeth besides himself. BTW, there's an old James/Cliff interview, circa 1985, where they clearly don't have respect for Mustaine when the interviewer brings him up.

Mustaine can be a d**k for sure. I've heard him yell at an intern at Henson studio in Hollywood. His lounge was next to ours and one day we could hear, through an adjoining door, Dave admonishing the intern for not brewing a fresh pot of coffee fast enough. He said very loudly, "I want this coffee changed out every 20 minutes..". So we got a bull horn and spent several days taking turns blaring out ridiculous, unreasonable demands at the adjoining door followed by raucous booms of laughter. Good times indeed;) For the record we all still liked the guy and his legacy but funny is funny

Mustaine's voice went to overly raspy shit 15 years ago. He said in 2007 he wasn't gonna do any more touring after that. I know the first 4 Megadeth albums by heart but never saw them live and will never bother to. I lost interest after Countdown To Extinction. Kerry King who actually played the bands first 5 shows said he has no idea how anyone can be in a band with Dave Mustaine for more than 5 hours. He just did way too much drugs for too long becoming a double crossing weirdo hypocrite. Then tried to be some Jesus freak only to contradict himself about his redemption or whatever Christians try to promote. Dave Mustaine's just milking his brand for all he can like all the lame butt rock bands are.
