To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Metal. The music is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the jokes will go over a typical listener's head. There’s also Metal’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into its characterisation- its personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these riffs, to realise that they’re not just dope- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Metal truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the growling in bands like Slipknot, which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as James Hetfield’s genius unfolds itself through their monitor. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Metallica tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. Dave Mustaine was my first musical idol, and these days he surprises me with his honesty and humbleness looking back. I had played guitar for a while as a teenager jamming to whatever; then I heard Megadeth and was a pure, strict metalhead for 3 years straight! The only initial reason I wanted to diligently learn guitar was to play all of their songs. Megadeth will always be my favorite metal band, and Dave's influence on the metal genre is insurmountable!

Where is the greenest grass upon which all of us can feed and prosper?
