Got to respect your desiccation to this sport, just recently watched some of your videos and bought some sway team 4’s and started again after 9 years!! Thanks!

This is awesome to see! Thanks for sharing! I’m just re-learning topsides myself. Finally locked a few today on a flat ledge! For me, what worked was the advice in Acosta’s topside video-visualize grinding the frame, and don’t put any pressure toward locking the soul plate onto the side of the thing. What resulted was basically setting up to roll on the ledge with my soul foot, and then pressing down to lock into the grind, kinda like people do when learning to get boot down on royales. When I missed, I just rolled instead of sliding. Really took the fear factor out of it for me!

That’s the big issue, the fear of siding out. Trying to visualize it as well, seems to work. Thanks for watching!

I was cheering for you as you were getting it man! Good stuff! I’m 30 and just got back into blading after like 10 years and I was never super solid at top sides. These are helping a lot to watch! Thanks!

You're really doing a lot better. I should start filming my sessions so I can see my mistakes
@BacktoBlading5 жыл бұрын
It really helps! I mean, so does 2k people watching and pointing out your flaws. But even if you didn’t post it, filming yourself is a great learning aid.

I'd need to get a little GoPro or something. I have a tripod for my phone but it's a pain using your phone for it.

You can always add an extra layer of wood on top of your box while progressing. This way the coping isn’t as elevated as it is right now, forcing you to bend your knees more!

I remember back in the day it was always done this way. When I came back to blading after 15 years i noticed everyone started doing it the easier way. Rarely do people get truly topside with that kind of setup they're usually just rolling on a rail. I wish everyone would go back to the original way of putting in coping, grinds would look way better!

That’s the idea. This is my learning box, I hope to make another that’s a bit higher and a bit less forgiving

When I learned topsides in the late 90s, I just visualized grinding on my axle bolts. I didn't try locking the soul are at all. This was on the M12 from that era. I also had no skatepark period and learned it on ledges with an angled edge. Worst possible scenario. Oddly for me, switch top acid was way easier then regular.

What do you think of this break down? Jump first with both feet rolling on top of the obstacle to make sure you are able to jump to the height of the obstacle. Then jump and roll with one foot (the one further from the edge) and land the other foot on topside position. That gives you confidence on locking on topside while being pretty safe. Finally, the same but move the skate that is still rolling on the top of the obstacle closer to its final position (forward for top soul, back for pornstar). At that moment, quickly slide the foot that was rolling into the coping.

Looking good man... you know what to do now you just have to practice. I am kind of similar in the fact that top porn and switch top porn almost feel the same but right foot is slightly better despite doing topsoul best left footed
@BacktoBlading5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It’s the leg strength. I don’t have it in my left yet. More practice and more switch souls

Bones are fine, anything will work. I stick to ABEC9 and greased, not paying more than $20/8

try focusing on keeping your knees far apart from one another, like you're doing a back unity but with your front foot tweaked. also, i bet you'd have sweatstances down permanent in ten minutes or less! great progress though!
@BacktoBlading5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Sweatstance seems logical but it’s all or nothing. Scary.

Hey Law, look at your knees! When they are stick together you lose your balance. You did it well in switch because your knees are open! Spread them more and it will be great :) At 10:30, it was almost perfect! More speed, more bended → TPS is in your pocket One of my TPS, not the best, but you can see how opened are my knees and how I bend until I sit: instagram.com/p/B0d232RoiR6/

I never learned top sides. But my brain tells me I would do them left foot where as I'm hardcore right footed. But I haven't really skated aggressive much as of late.
@BacktoBlading5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, my brain says left as well. Gotta try both

It looks like your putting more wait in front of you instead of on both feet or your leaning too forward just a thought. But it was looking good great job🤙💯👊

Yes, though switch isn’t really a thing anymore. It’s whatever feels better to you.
