Looks like a fun airplane! 4 stroke!! Now let me mount my high horse. I see lots of pilots do this . They call clear prop but then hit the starter less than one second later. Give someone a few seconds to clear the prop area after you call clear prop. That being said, you do have a better view of your prop disc area than most others.

What's up, my brothers and I are going to chip in for some land one day in tenseness, and have 3 houses on it. Me/tiny house!! :D With some horses, and a pond perhaps, like less than 20mins from a mountain and from my parents lake front home that they want to get, later down the road. It would be hard for my brothers not to buy one of these!! Or we get one for the 3 of us. Although I would want to perhaps try para motoring one day, but feel like they could collapse pretty easily.

Aww. My Carlson is somewhere near Rochester and I was going to ferry it back when it's complete. So close, but it's in the opposite direction. I'm glad to know you're flying the BYF, however. Its durability was unknown. As for camera, it gives a few into the wing, which is very curious!

I built C-IAVW, an aerobatic a/c. Why not have proper fuselage etc. So much DRAG. Why no dihedral? How much G certified? CAVU skies to you and all aviators.
@jimiorezzoli5 ай бұрын
I think an open fuselage was considered sufficient for the sedate airspeeds normally experienced, usually cruising at 55 mph. Instead of dihedral in the wing it's in the wingtips, she quite stable. When trying to comply with FAA 103 some compromises had to be made. I was very pleased with her flight characteristics, only minor trim was needed.
@davidwheatcroft27975 ай бұрын
@@jimiorezzoli Covering with fabric not heavy, and cheap. Sound like a 1 speed wing; Rogallos are similar - yes lots of lift at slow speed, but then huge drag as speed increases - does not leave ypu much to play with. Mine (23012) stalled at 30kts or less; Vne 110kts; cruise about 75kts depending on propeller. 4 stroke engine in yours. Fuselage Al or moly steel? Al not normally allowed for mission critical parts - mine was the exception with extruded fittings and 8 3/16th SS rivets securing each tube. Anyway, very well done; would have been fun to fly formation with you.

What CC & HP@rpm is this Engine? If 4200rpm is used for takeoff, what can it run at for continuous rpm? What kind of CHT and EGT are you seeing?
@ArnoldsDesign4 жыл бұрын
I remember mentioning using industrial engines in ultralights on the forums in the early 2000's when rotax's were becoming scarce. People said, no, no, those can't possibly work. Power to weight ratio, not strong enough, blah blah blah. Idiots.

@jimiorezzoli4 жыл бұрын
Yes it's the chute handle, that I prefer leaving pinned. The motor is a 90' Generac although they have a larger model with a flat 4 (VW)
@CaptainCurt074 жыл бұрын
Nice! The vw conversion I mentioned is a 4cylinder modification/ removal of 2cylinders which then could be used on ultralight, vw is then 4cycle 2cylinder much lighter suited for ultralight

A fun video to watch!!!! Please provide engine and prop speed reducer details!!!
@Dsoginventor5 жыл бұрын
BigFiveJack , Since no one else answered your question, I will. The engine is a Generac 4 cycle engine. If I’m not mistaken, it’s the biggest engine Generac makes. The people that build this ultralight airplane change the carburetor system for a bit better performance, and add altitude-compensating carbs. They are also the same people that build their own reduction drive system for this motor. Both the General motor, AND their reduction drive units are for sale separately, plus they make the wooden props, too. BTW, the ultralight itself comes a completed plane. No kits, and no assembly, only flyable planes. In a nutshell, the Backyard Flyer, the Generac engine, the redrive system and the wooden prop all come from one place.
