Save money on new soil by adding dead leaves and buying big bales of peat moss. Peat moss helps hold in moisture and it's a lot cheaper and the leaves will break down over time and provide nutrients. I expanded my garden a lot this year and that saved a ton of money.

Hi, Kilee. I am so glad to finally see a video that tells the truth about the time it takes to do landscaping. I have been working since spring to rock out my backyard. You are right about those places that sell tons of rock and that initially it feels wasteful to get this stuff from Lowe's or THD. I have bought rock online from Walmart and Amazon too. You are doing an amazing job. BTW, my late husband worked in the oil fields as a union welder/pipefitter. We miss him a lot. It takes a great deal of skill and education to do the work they do. They spend lots of time away from home to provide for family. Shout out to your husband. Thank you for sharing and continued blessings.

Back yard looks great. Love the tree that was a bush. You need to correct the dog each time he poops in the rocks. I had a Dalmatian that did the same thing. I would take him to the poop and push his nose towards it and sternly and loudly say NO several times. It didn't take long before he got the message. But be consistent and make sure you are loud and stern. Animals don't understand words but they understand the sternness of your voice. Make sure everyone in the family does the same thing. Hope it works for you. It would help others if you gave a cost for each bag of rocks and then an over all cost for the whole project. Buying the rocks in bags is a lot easier to spread then having a huge pile of rocks delivered.

Great garden makeover- for your dog problem- you need to take him out to go wearing a leash / you show him where you want him to go/ give a treat and then repeat over and over until that is his new routine- dogs want to please you and the reward is the key- and you keep in the potty area until he goes and then he can run around

Love the makeover - good start.. I'm in TN and have several "gardens". Two things will make your plants thrive - consisten watering (I installed drip and it saved the day) and good growing medium. I replaced "dirt" in raised beds and containers with a combo of peat moss, sand, perlite and compost (with a little soil). This holds moisture far better. Nutrients leach out constantly so I bury food scraps (I'm a cook), add flowers (lupine, marigolds & borage are best) and fertilizer. If not, growth will really slow. The change in climate has made full sun harder for plants like tomatoes and basil so now they're partial shade. Goood Luck

Hi Kilee, When i moved into the house we are in right now, i made a compost heap in the odd corner of my yard and every time i did yard work i would throw some of it in a pile in that area of my yard. We are getting ready to move out to the countryside i had to get rid of some of the leaves and branches that had not rotted down yet i have a great big pile of soil underneath it all. that i can use to fill in holes that my dog dug out and still have enough to fill in the pond we put in a few years ago. not every one likes pond either because of the wild life or for the reasons of safety. so i thought i would remove it all together and take it with us when we move. Peat moss helps keep the soils warm and moist and adding bone meal can also help your growing plants. If you want to keep your garden growing a little longer you can add metal bars arched over the top and put a clear poly over the top and if you move the soil away from the walls of your raised bed you can add some Styrofoam against the walls either from Parcels or from the hard ware store and use it as insulation to your planter boxes the combination of the two with the peat moss will keep your plants producing right into the chilly fall and even into winter. I know we get some severe weather but it has worked for me in the past. I hope this helps you out. As for the dog using the area as a toilet the only thing i can think of that works for me is a long tether that doesn't extend to your new garden area. Dog going to the bathroom on the stones is a pain in the behind, pardon the pun. But it also deters critters from stealing your veggies the height means nothing to the critters they will climb to get what they want. Unfortunately. there is another possible way to contain the doggie do do and that is a fenced area just for the dog with a chain link fence wit a shade and patio slabs so it is easy clean up and its contained in one space instead of all over the yard for clean up. I hope this helps you out Kilee. You did a fantastic job on you garden area it looks great really you did a great job. The less said about the tree the better but it turned out great in the end the bush will recover more quickly than you think. It will look like you haven't touched it by spring next year. You are doing a fantastic job Kilee and you work so hard bless you! God bless. Put your feet up you've earned it. See you in the next video. Take care my friend and stay safe.

Looks great!!! I laughed at your intro when you said you lie to your kids saying the park is closing…just so you can go home. My great niece (4 years) loves the children’s museum. Not because of the learning experience but because they have a mini Publix setup where you can get a grocery cart, shop for food and checkout. She always wants to go so I tell her they are not open until Saturday, which is three morning days (as she calls it) away. And of course Saturday never comes. I’ve tried taking her to the real grocery store but she doesn’t like it because they don’t have the kid grocery carts.

sometimes when I am using electric tools outside, I will take the connecting ends and tie a single knot. That way, the ends do not come apart. I also put the weed barrier in the planters, that way the water seeps out slower. Also can put in drainage holes. I hate replacing my wood beds too quickly. lol. There should be a video for potatoes, using a dollar tree laundry basket. Easy, and satisfying. Have fun. Enjoy your garden.

In reply to previous post, recommending spreading mothballs. Most of them are toxic, so with small children and pets, perhaps not the best idea.
