I just discovered your channel and enjoyed this video very much! I am 62, and began gardening at age 20 following the birth of my first child. I had very little knowledge of growing things, but asked for advice from my mother in law, and my own mom. When my zinnias and cosmos and four o'clock seeds came up and bloomed so beautifully, I was hooked! Today, I have several gardens on our farm. It's my pleasure in this season of life. Just look at all you've accomplished, why, it looks amazing! Remember to spend time with those sweet little kiddos and make good memories with them! They grow up faster than you can blink! I'm excited to share your video with my daughters who like gardening too. Blessings to you and your family!❤

What a wonderful yard!!! So many mature shade trees! Love the privacy fence, but that will take time. I would add some kind of climbing vine at the bottom of the fence to fill in quickly , while the trees mature. The stone structure adds so much interest. I love it! Yes , lots of terra cotta pots , flowers and maybe topiaries in that area would look awesome. I am a sucker for red brick houses, so find yours so charming, as the backdrop to the garden.

Thanks for all your thoughts! I have been contemplating a climbing vine, but wanted something evergreen and don’t want something invasive like Ivy, so it’s been very difficult to find the right thing. Might end up doing Euonymus plus eventually some climbing flowers would be pretty. I also like the red brick even though so many people are painting their brick white now I thought about it and I feel like I want to stick with red!

You’re doing a great job. Your kids are involved and enjoying the garden. That’s what is important at this stage of your life, making memories with the family. A fireplace in between the raised beds. I love an outdoor fireplace.

I think a pond or a small garden waterfall between your raised beds will look cute too!

Yeah, so it must’ve been a waterfall before because we found some of the piping, but it’s all broken now. Would absolutely love to try to get some sort of water feature there at some point if I could figure out how to fix it!

I live in the Chicago suburbs too! Thankfully we got no Cicadas but I heard closer to the city was bad, I’m pretty far west. I love what you’ve done with the yard! Our kids are also the same age and it’s been a challenge, especially with my 1 year old. Nap times are really the only time I get to garden and it’s usually already hot by then. Love that tree swing and hammock! And your garden is coming in great!
