I think the charcoal used in the weber kettle has more convection (the air moving over the chicken, charcoal burning at a faster rate and more air movement ) therefore it gives is more of a smoke flavor and maybe dries the chicken out a bit more. Perhaps a water pan under the kettle with the chicken would have made it more juicy and enable the temperatures to be a little easier to maintain with less fiddling with the vents while retaining the great smoke flavor.

I had both for couple of month, but only used kamado, so I sold the kettle. Significant benefits of kamado is the performance in cold weather (about 5-8 months in yeap here in Germany) and in light rain.

one thing to remember is the kamados vent is in the middle top of the lid while the kettle is offset. My guess is more smoke is rolling over the meat on the kettle and the fact that kamados are a lot more efficient im not surprised by the results. I have the Summit and I dont find the smoke flavor too over powering compared to a barrel or kettle which is not a bad thing for my personal preference. Great Cooker!

Great point! In our “smoke” tests, we have found that our other cookers (Weber Smokey Mountain, drum smoker, etc) have given a more pronounced smoke flavor than the WSK. Your comment about the placement of the vent in the WSK makes a lot of sense.
@Nclght2 ай бұрын
That's the same conclusion SmokingDad recently explained. He says the vent in the middle creates stale smoke, while when it's offset, it creates more air movement, creating a better smoke. I wasn't sure this was accurate but this video seems to support this.

Unless you need fire assist, you are better buying the regular one and have enough for a larger table and accessories.

Good analysis. As always in the end it is the pitmaster and not the pit. The differences are often so minute that you can only tell in a direct side-by-side comparison.

Hi! Thanks for the review ! Got a question about how bulky the weber is. What is the minimum size of door it could pass for winter storage? Thanks!
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ3 ай бұрын
The WSK E6 is 44.9”(h) x 34.8” (w) x 35” (d) so I think it will fit through most standard doors that are 36” wide.

“Fuel is flavor”! Kamado grills tend to be too efficient and seem to produce more moisture but less flavor.
@rageremains3 ай бұрын
This is pretty consistent with other comparisons of the summit. The smoke flavor tends to be subtle, and likely the grill is too efficient with fuel and not burning enough clean smoke. There’s another channel that has done comparisons and goes into additional details if you’re looking to compare different Kamado style grills. I own the summit, I enjoy it but if you want a Kamado style grill, something like a Kamado Joe might be more versatile and better overall value. I didn’t want to deal with a heavy grill so I went with the summit but I’m disappointed by the lack of add ons and almost none existent support from Weber. I would add that as another huge pro for the cheap kettle in this comparison. It has tons of add ons and it’s cheap. All that said, there aren’t enough channels doing summit content. Keep it up!

I think, with the vent on the side of the kettle, opposite the slow n sear, the smoke will roll past the chicken and out the vent. On the WSK, you have the vent in the middle and the smoke goes out the center missing drawing it across the chicken as much. I think you would do better on the Summit Kamado using the the two baskets on each side and the chicken in the middle versus the slow and sear. The WSK just doesn't work as well with the slow n sear in my opinion. Good video overall.

Not sure U did this video yet?? Please do video the best way to clean inside of weber kettle ans Weber Smokey mountain every Spring..i been using Simple Green and garden hose!! Pretty messy job.. Thanks
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ4 ай бұрын
I have this video on cleaning your grill grates kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoSrlWejqNRslbM As for the cooking chamber, you want to keep the inside seasoned so I don’t recommend trying to clean it with solvents. Instead light a chimney full of charcoal and let it burn inside the grill without food. Open all of the vents and get the temperature as hot as you can. After the coals burn out, spray the inside with vegetable oil. Hope that helps!

Why not set the kamado up with the heat deflector. And a water pan to make it inefficient?
@BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ4 ай бұрын
I tried to make things more similar since the kettle doesn’t have a heat deflector. Using the slow n sear in both felt reasonable.
