Years ago I watched influencers telling me that I could use the same microfiber cloth on the toilet and then around the house. I’m not a scientist, but….🤢🤢🤮. They also smeared lipstick all over a mirror and supposedly cleaned it all off with a microfiber cloth. I’m back to my white bar cloths that I’ve used forever. I use them in place of paper towels.

Thanks for doing this. I fell for the claims about Norwex and E- Cloth. I have both brands in the cloths and the Norwex mop. I intuitively knew though that I should use cleaners for places I want to be disinfected, so I do that, but I love the cloths for glass and mirrors. I have used the Norwex mop for years and have never felt the need to disinfect my floors, so even before using the Norwex mop, I used a general purpose cleaner for just getting my floors clean. I feel like the mop gets my floors as clean as what I was doing before without constantly wringing out the mop head. I hate mopping with a bucket and won’t go back!!

Well, that’s disappointing! I was very skeptical about its ability to kill bacteria, just like all the microfiber mops making the same claims. The box of e- cloths I got were very specific to bathroom, window, stainless, etc, and even had a label to mark them. They all feel a little different. I do still love mine for cleaning glass, the shower, and for dusting. I’ve never bothered with the kitchen ones though, because I didn’t really trust them to kill bacteria. I am glad to find your channel. I'm a germaphobe, so anything that talks about bacteria interests me, especially when it comes to my home. I'm also not a big fan of microfiber cloths, but a while ago I found some cheap ones similar to cotton and decided to try them. It turns out that now I don't want anything else to clean the surfaces than those cloths, but those one in particular, not just anyone, because not only does the dirt come off well when the cloth is washed (no rubbish gets stuck) but it leaves the surfaces almost dry. I think sometimes it's a matter of luck to get the right product. Although what pleases me may not please others. As for cloths that remove bacteria, just with water, honestly I didn't even need to test them, you can tell straight away that it's bullshit ;) I wash my cloth with soap everytime after use and hang it in the sink. I change it every week, wash the used one with soap and put it in bleach for half an hour, rinse well with clean water and once dry, iron it and store it. So far I haven't found a better way to kill bacteria than bleach, but I'll watch all your videos, I'm curious.

I never believed the e-cloth & norwex claims of removing bacteria from surfaces using their cloths and water. I do have some of their cloths that I use using for dusting and cleaning windows and mirrors which I still use w/ dusting sprays and glass cleaner. When I used just water alone w/ the cloths it did not clean effectively for me. They left streaks and smeary film on glass, they just moved dust around on my furniture. When they get really dirty I wash in cold water w/ a little detergent and vinegar, no softener.

I have the e cloth kitchen wiz and also the kitchen cleaning cloth with the little scrubby on the corner. Not sure I really believed the claims made but just liked the way they felt. Any bacteria tests I’ve seen with similar cloths, eg norwex, do the clean chicken juice removal from the kitchen bench. So slap some chicken on the bench, then wipe bench with cloth then test. As for the polishing cloth that supposed to be used to wipe a mirror/window, stove top or chrome tap fitting to create a streak free shine after using the general cleaning cloths. I don’t feel so guilty now when I’ve used them with product I’ve purchased before. Thanks for all your hard work, really enjoy your channel. Regards Lesley.

Right, so I test real world situations. I do not inoculate a surface, I test what bacteria is normally in a home in those areas. I am not a fan of the Norwex protein swab test. My petri dish tests can show bacteria on a surface before and after using a product (I test many many many products!). I have not used the protein swabs but I have seen them in videos. I did read the 3M product paperwork and it says "The 3M™ Clean-Trace™ Surface Protein Plus Test is a single-use device that detects protein from food residues and other sources. The 3M Clean-Trace Surface Protein Plus Test can also detect other reducing substances present in food residues...... . The 3M Clean-Trace Surface Protein Plus Test is not intended as a microbiological monitoring tool but may detect bacteria in excess of 107cfu/test." That is just one type that I found from a quick search... So I am not going to use a protein test for bacteria evidence.

They work wonder on glass door, you can clean with a spray bottle and an e-clothes rather than a bucket and hose. Maybe try and test your surfaces with 2 pass. And with 2 passes with a 50/50 vinegar mix I also use with a spay bottle with diluted dish soap if needed. I change it up based on the type of service it is used on. I use the vinegar on my wood floor with their mop. Thanks for your videos!

I hope you can test the mop and especially I’m interested if the mop cloths can fit on a swiffer mop head so I don’t have to rebuy the whole system for all my Airbnbs. my professional Cleaner swears by the mop at other airbnbs she cleans and says it cleans way better than disposable swiffer wet cloths we’ve been using at my units.

I want to start with I’m a skeptic with these “just add water” claims. However e cloth is great for cleaning window and mirrors and that’s what I care about. I think it’s worth mentioning that we’ve heard people don’t need antibacterial soap to wash hands and that’s because the act(the mechanics) of washing hand with water makes germs come off the hands. I think we should adjust our expectations of these claims. I like using e cloths to clean with but i also use multipurpose cleaner. In fact the only one I use without cleaner is glass. I use hot water with the window rag and dry polish. Windex makes me sneeze so it’s been a good alternative and I haven’t had to buy another one in five years. So yeah I think their quality is decent. So yeah you’re getting a fairly expensive cloth. It doesn’t kill all bacteria. It doesn’t kill bacteria at all. Just moves it. But they work great with multipurpose cleaner too. I liked this video. Thanks for posting. I’m following now!
@FieldOfFocus

So with the mechanics of hand washing, the soap is really doing the job of "carry germs away" more so than the physical rubbing of hands. Doesn't have to be antibacterial soap, just soap. I use my Norwex window cloth and water to clean my mirrors it does a fine job! Thanks for watching!

I would like to know if there are any products where the result is outstanding especially at your kitchen sink drain because I find it really strange that the dry cloth had such different success at the drain versus the toulet rim... Maybe it's not about the cloth but about the drain, it's shape or so?

I have absolutely had products that I have tested that remove all of the bacteria in my kitchen sink including 409, Force of Nature, Bleach, Windex Multi-surface Disinfectant, and Mrs Meyers almost removed all of the bacteria. There are others, but those are the ones that I remember without re-watching.

Honestly, I appreciate you going back and using the polishing cloth to test that, however the assumption on the instructions is that it will be used on a surface you've already wiped down with the other cloth (since you "finish" with it,) meaning the surface would still be wet. Going at it with both the glass/finishing cloth and the surface dry is not strictly following the directions and will presumably make it less effective. However, I was really frustrated with the generic responses you got when you reached out. You asked a simple question, and they threw a bunch of marketing rhetoric at you without addressing your question at all. I get that the person responding to those emails has a script and they are sort of the first line of customer support, so may not even have the knowledge you were looking for, but it's still frustrating. It's also really disingenuous of them to make all these claims without specifying that only two of their products have been tested (at least, only two have had good results,) because many people will just assume it's the generic, multi-purpose cloth.
@FieldOfFocus
@FieldOfFocus 2 ай бұрын
I understand your point. Honestly, I cannot believe that real world cleaning anyone would be using the general cloth with water, then polishing toilets, sinks etc anyway. I agree about the generic answers. That is why I shared the emails, I wanted the viewers to see that I tried to get some straightforward answers. I would have tested other products if they told me which products where tested. I have to hope that at some point some lab got those 99% results before making that claim.

I am hoping that the 3rd party tests had some extra pressing scrubbing machines that used strong mechanical cleaning, I really like to hope 3rd party didn't screw it up. So my husband said the same, I should test wiping with general then finishing with dry. I considered it for the second test, but I cannot imagine people are actually going to use both cloths to wipe toilets, sinks etc. I try to test real world situations. I might go back and test that again.. undecided!

@FieldOfFocus I haven't watched the norwex one yet. I know I wound up finding stuff saying that the silver fibers were only supposed to keep the cloth from mildewing, not that it was supposed to be antibacterial outside of that. Like seriously? The whole thing is it supposedly cleans everything, to turn around and just say it is to keep it from mildewing is so misleading. 🙄

How disappointing. 😕 I have a lot of ecloths. But I never fully trusted the 'just water' claim. I spray a vinegar solution or hydrogen peroxide solution on what I'm cleaning. On the positive though, they do pick up more dirt and grime than any other microfiber I've tried. Even grease around the oven and exhaust fan. 🤓 For items that have heavy dust, I use a lightly dampened ecloth. I would be interested to see if you test the mop. 🤔

I feel like this review doesn't show me what bacteria would be removed in real world use. I would never just wipe out the sink like that I would be running hot water and wipe it out and then rinse and the same with the drain and bathroom sink. After rinsing I would dry my sink and drain to a shine, this is how I learned to do them when i was 16 and working my first job in a cafeteria and how I still do my own (only with dish soap and i disinfect once a week or so.. I admit I would not clean a toilet without cleaner but if I did, I would have a wet cloth and a dry cloth where I washed with wet and dried to a steak free shine which is what I do with my cleaners.. I'd like to see if these cloths perform better with water than my white bar rags when used in this fashion. I was always taught by my father (a chef) the key to clean was making sure that everything was left dry, bacteria he would, grown in moist conditions. Cloths were then dumped to be washed or washed by hand and hung to dry. My grand mother soaked her cloths in javex (all colours if they didn't survive she didn't want them) in her kitchen sink killing to birds with one stone, disinfected sink and cloths.

Exposed! The proof the buying public deserves. Some companies likely just had some technology lying around that could be turned into a product for profit, if even that. Wouldn't be surprised if many brands selling microfibre are simply different wrappings for the same base material, maybe even produced by the same factories, just with trademarked branding. There are a few exceptions with actual differing properties, some of the professional-use cloths for hospitals for example. Most testing these companies or 'independent' third parties conduct is a marketing stunt, the hint being the claim they remove UP TO 99% of TESTED bacteria. Technically, this can be sprinkling a tiny amount of chosen bacteria onto already sterile surface, immediately use brand new product and, if any tiny section of the surface has removed 99%, they can make the claim. They could otherwise just manipulate the results. Again, I'm sure some companies take it seriously, but I'd wager a guess not more than one-two handfuls globally. That's why real-world testing as done by you, is the only way to assess the actual performance, in environments people actually use them, which is what these companies should have started with when developing the products.
@FieldOfFocus

Excellent points! I agree that they must have had some testing that showed the 99% results in order to put it there. My kitchen sink (not the drain) result was good.
