Biology Professor (Twitter: @DrWhitneyHolden) discusses the four phases of bacterial growth: Lag Phase, Log (or Exponential Growth) Phase, Stationary Phase, and Death (or Logarithmic Decline) Phase. Each phase is described with extra attention paid to the BINARY FISSION process through which bacteria cells divide and a discussion of bacterial generation time. Great for MCAT Biology Review!

good explanation, but can you guys please do a thorough video on the Fts' and the Min proteins and how they aid in successive bacterial binary fisson to form the first generation?

what if my bacteria has 1 and 2 phases but then it rapidly decreases and then again increases? So, in 3rd phase (in my case) they die rapidly( bcs of an environment and not enough nutrients?), and then again grow (bcs of good environment and more nutrients?). Can I say like this? But also, what kind of population growth would it be?

It is hard to answer without knowing more. It is possible the a certain micronutrient (like iron, for example) is required for growth and so the cells start dying when no more of that micronutrient is available. However, if all the cell death releases some of the micronutrient back into the environment, some additional cell replication may be possible for the remaining living cells. But this is just a guess!

Can the curve touch to bottom in 4 th phase in liquid media culture??
@BiologyProfessor
@BiologyProfessor 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the curve should touch the bottom if all bacteria have died.

Good information. however, the explanation on the binary fission process per se was very superficial. Thanks anyway
