Great video guys, Just a note,The low speed jets you were adjusting near the end of the video are actually air mixture jets (notice blunt tip) Turning the screw out makes mixture leaner and turning it in makes it richer. The amount of fuel is metered by the Slow Jet located in the float bowl and is adjusted by replacing the jet with one of a different value. Rule of thumb: If the low speed jet is located before the slide of the carb (air cleaner side) it will be an air control jet. If it is located after the carb slide (manifold side) it will be fuel control jet. 🇨🇦 👍👍
@calvinmientke35392 жыл бұрын
I found the "keep hour hands off" factory plugs on the manifold side of the carbs. It adjusts the fuel and not the air. Big difference! I didn't see Slippers stick his fingers against the slides to check cable sync. That return to idle says more tinkering. Multiple carbs, always return original parts to their own carb.
@allanvaneste91062 жыл бұрын
I found it strange that Honda didn't provide a height measurement for the slides at idle. That way you can use a couple drill bits the right size under the slides when syncing the throttle cable. Both bits should move at exactly the same time when applying throttle.

I've fixed those broken posts for the floats, by milling the rest of the post down a bit, and machining a new piece for the top, and then drilling and tapping using a 4-40 stainless stud to screw it together. Once the float pin is in, you don't have to worry about it backing off.

I had one of these bikes in the 1960's and early 70's. We had to do a crank and we had to do the carbs. When done it ran very well a nice bike. I also had a CB 175 at the same time. Honda really made great bikes in those days.

I bought a ‘66 CL160 back around 72. It had straight pipes so it was loud! Put some Snuff-Or-Nots on it and they quieted it right down! Turn the knobs and it was back to straight pipes. The kits were about $2 per pipe. The company is long gone, but there is plenty of information and pictures of them on the internet. You could make your own.

Looking good Slip. You must really be having a mild Jan this year hehehehehhe.
@utooobur2 жыл бұрын
It's been years since I worked on any of these older Hondas but I do believe you are adjusting the floats from the wrong surface. For one, if the measurement was from the surface you used the gauge in the diagram in the maual would have had the tip of the gauge dotted where it was hidden behind the raised lip on the body of the carb. Also the measure indicator off to the the right indicates the edge of the carb body. This also maybe why the idle wont come down.

So I didn't get a good look, but saw enough to know I wanted it! Even if the engine was mostly missing, but seemed to be complete, and decent looking, I would put a different engine on it if need be, I like smaller frame lighter bikes,

This is an amazing vintage bike Slip Dog. Lucky SOB. You may not have all of Taryls skill but you do have an amazing talent for restoring the greats. Good work my dude. Next you need a Harley. lol If you can get these floats clean you can solder the holes shut. Obviously you need to make sure there is no gas in it. Ultrasonic cleaner should do the trick.

Ewww Harleys,,, I Have had over 10 Harleys and never again. Over priced, slow, crazy maintenance, ego driven junk. Never owned one that I did not end up doing some major motor repair except a 98 dyna Evo. Just give me a 1100-1400cc Sport bike any day. Run circles around most of the built Harleys on the road. Change the oil put gas in the tank and ride really fast. without issues.

@spagsketti2 жыл бұрын
@@charlesangell_bulmtl YA I did, don't think that new big ole motor they just made is issue free. I worked at Harley I know the inside. No thank you. Harley corp have been screwing their customers for years and they don't even spit on it. The twin cam came out in 1999 and by 2001 they knew the cam chain tensioners were soft they sold every last one before putting the new fix on the shelf to sell. Plus they did not "FIX" it in production bikes till 2007-2008 knowing if it failed in the premature 25k-40k mileage it would destroy the motor. Same time period with the pressed together flywheel that would shift with age or high RPM (before rev limiter kicked in) cutting off oil to the motor destroying it as well. a few small simple welds before it got balanced would fix the problem and did Harley do it?? No they charged you for that service when you rebuilt the destroyed motor usually out of warranty. around 2009 is when they addressed that problem. Now did they sell you a pressed together flywheel when fixing the bike?? Ya. So you put broken new parts in the bike so you can turn around and do it again. See no spit. I will still pass.

I'd fill the tank with hot vinegar, get it boiling in a pot, pour it in the gas tank, let it set until cool, and repete if needed, it should look like new after a couple treatments, then rinse with 70- 91% alcohol, then a few ounces of gas, after that. Either seal it, or fill with gas!!

As the saying goes: If you have a $10 head, get a $10 dollar helmet. I speak from personal experience. Turns out that pulling a clearway sign out of the ground, complete with the concrete block using your head isn't a great idea.🏍🌧😵🚑 Fractured C1 (a hangman fracture) and T4 (4th thoracic vertebra) and spent the next 3 and a half weeks flat on my back in hospital. Fortunately my helmet took the brunt of the damage rather than my skull. (Wet roads, aquaplaning and a fire hydrant assisted high side ensured that the only thing that hit the sign was the top and centre of the helmet.)

Yeah that garbage they sell from eBay and Amazon can make you pull your hair out. Also riding a bike with little to no brakes can be a big problem and very hard on the old body. Running that bike with no airbox and filter will make it very lean.
