I really appreciate TD s mechanical skills. The Heald Is an all American specialty vintage vehicle that fell into the right hands. It's running and useful again with some improvements that dont ruin its character. I'm glad the transmission didn't have major damage.

I have a '74 Simplicity 10 HP 3-speed manual tractor, and after rebuilding the transmission, bevel gear box, and axle 20 years ago now, I consciously try not to abuse the tractor. Too many unobtainable parts and I don't know if I could find another donor transmission. Glad to see this was only a key. That transmission looks pretty well designed.

Mr. Dactyl your "youthful" spirit is a huge part of your overall charm. It is part and parcel of why you & your talented family have succeeded with your channel. Sometimes that same spirit leads us afoul of physics!! Great video as usual. All my best to you and your family.

Resurrecting any old one of them would be cool...and another great KZbin experience. I hope that you share. Even modifying a modern UTV is juicy. Yeah! Rolling out of yir garage and doing yard work...like a BOSS! A rig with every tool necessary, at a arms length, would save half the work and time. ...more time to golf.

I have a VT-840 Super Bronc that has a HM80 Tecumseh in it with a 40 series Comet torque converter in it. It used to be a VT-812 with a 30 series torque converter in it, but it was too many horses for the 30 series torque converter. I like it much better after that improvement. I bought it and put it together in about 1980. We also have a Super Tryke that had a 11hp Briggs until the plastic governor gear broke. The weights that were on the governor then broke the piston skirt off and went through the timing gears creating much carnage. I decided to repower the tryke with a 13hp Honda clone and have been very happy with it. We still use them both around our dairy farm. Ron Kimball used to work for Carl Heald. He started a company called Power Tec that sold many parts for them. I have bought parts from him, but I do not know if he still does or not. Ron told me he helped nail the doors shut when Carl Heald closed.

Hi Martin, I have basically the same hauler as Taryl, except mine has the dump truck bed thing. I am not a mechanic, but when I opened my comet fnr it looks like a nuclear bomb went off inside, I wish it was just a key. All the gears are chewed up beyond recognition and all the planetaries in that differential thing are in millions of little pieces. You wouldn't happen to know what I should look for to replace it with would you? The original motor is long gone and someone scabbed in one of those predator vc660(?) engines into it. I had to cut both axles(?) off just to get it out to look at it because everything was welded to every other thing.

I believed when you’re wheel came off the ground then came back down and re-connected with the grounds you snapped a gear in the trans but happy it was only a key ! Beautiful job Taryl

I seen it when it started shearing. It went up on two wheels and you were still on the gass when it came down. Seen stuff like that many, many times over the years in my shop. Especially with open differentials and locking differentials (Detroit lockers.) You get one wheel spining and suddenly get traction and POW!!!

Well Taryl, you Hauler looks great, I have one not nearly as nice, but I'm working on it. Got it a couple of years back from someone who thought they knew what they were doing. I have to start out with a complete rewire and then move on to the drive system. The previous "mechanic" turned the rear axle around and tried to direct drive with a mini bike clutch... didn't work (LOL). Soon as I find the schematic I can start on the wiring. Now you said in your video here that you think you are done with your hauler, but you know better than that, those of us that tinker are never finished ... just takin a break...
