I would've never known that making a u turn with 20,000 lbs or more could blow a tire 😬 Thanks again for all of the info and knowledge.
@robp46163 жыл бұрын
@Trucker Gal Regarding this, I was doing a ton of research on the subject and couldn't find great, consistent information to confirm this theory of blowouts on rear axle tires with sharp turns at a somewhat heavy load. I understand the physics behind the theory: The rear axle tires slightly skid when cornering -- adding additional friction (and, thus, heat) to the tires. Naturally, a wider turn (with a sharper trailer swing) would introduce more skidding (friction) to the tires. I just don't understand how it would cause a blowout unless the tires are 1) damaged 2) underinflated or 3) extremely hot already. Have you looked into this any further?
@truckergal3 жыл бұрын

Yeah I hear that a lot from drivers that come from there. There is time you have to wait on a load but not like you have. So far I may have to wait a day it's according where you are at but most of the time you have another load waiting on you. That's when you get unloaded. When the freight is slow that's when you usually say it but I can't tell you the last time I have said a long time. It is courting to where you live at like I live in Louisiana but I'm over the road. When I started I done tractor supply you usually don't set that long.

They sell replacement pigtail plugs at trucstops for about 15 bucks. If you can and want to they are easy to change. Just a few screws. Just make sure to put the wires into the right hole... Those plastic plugs wear out pretty fast. The connection is better on newer trailers but bad on older trailers that also have worn out plugs.

Try dialectical grease in your pigtail holes first. It could be the hole in the plug is loose and the grease bridges the gaps. Watch for your running lights flickering in your mirrors while you are driving. If it continues or if you notice the flickering, it for sure is the piggtail. I just went thru this and a state trooper pulled me over for it. I had the replacement parts to change it and was intending to do it when I checked in at my next stop, but he beat me to it. Good luck!

When I drove, anytime I was at a place where I had to slide the tandems to the rear, I would do so and leave the tandem lever out untIl I got inside the place; then I would stop and slide them all the way forward to make turning and backing easier. Then when I got backed into my spot, I would put them back again. Saved me a lot of space and time.
