I'm a born and bred South African that has lived in the USA for the last 23 years but I still visit SA regularly. The shopping malls in SA can compete with the best that the US has to offer and personally I think the restaurant quality is excellent in SA. Off course visiting SA with USD is just a delight. Unfortunately for South Africans it is not the case.

I live in Sandton and we do have load shedding, it just isn't as noticeable in malls and shopping centres because they use generators. South Africa has adapted to this way of life because load shedding is not going anywhere. Last week we switched between stages and at one point we had stage 6. Stage 6 load shedding left us without electricity for 9 hours per day. If you don't own a generator like me, due to living in a complex with noise restrictions, load shedding does become a hassle for online lectures (University). I do charge my devices and lamps when there is electricity. However, when we have load shedding for more than 4hrs straight, I don't even have cell service because the towers cut out after 4 hrs.

If it weren't for load-shedding, I wouldn't dream of leaving this place. But as it stands, I'll be working to get my hands on a British ancestral-visa, which I'm told shouldn't be overly complicated a process as my grandfather was Scottish. 43 years, through all manner of hardships, and Eskom are the ones to drive me out like a dog. Go figure.

Interesting where u actually started this video - that fencing on the left is actually the American embassy and directly across the road next to that beautiful glass building used to be IBM where I worked before it was demolished making way for that blue glass building. Everything in Sandton glitters - very expensive place to shop and live in. The majority of the people in the malls don't live in Sandton but come thru for shopping and leisure - years back Sandton was actually a f arming community which has rapidly developed into the richest square mile in Africa

TipOfAfria0010 There is a difference between an embassy and a consulate. Embassies are located only in the capital of a country. The US embassy is in Pretoria one of your capitals. In Jburg you have a US consulate.

for some reason it seems like South Africa has parts that are kind of like California. I've never been there but that's the way that it seems, especially Cape Town area, i.e western cape. Good video Sly.

One thing for you to know is that South African cities are seasonal. Joburg the place to be around throughout the year but Cape Town is the place to be during the festive season when the city is packed with peeps from around the world. And then dont underestimate the smaller but lovely rural towns like Knysna and Plett
